Alex Marquez Admits Being “A Bit Worried” About Hand Injury Ahead of Brno MotoGP Return

Gresini MotoGP rider Alex Marquez has revealed concerns about his recovering hand injury ahead of this weekend’s Czech Grand Prix at the Brno circuit. The rider, currently second in the championship standings, fractured his left hand during a crash at the Dutch Grand Prix and had to undergo surgery to stabilize the injury.

Despite his recent setback, Marquez managed to compete at the German Grand Prix, finishing second and strengthening his position in the championship. However, the younger brother of Marc Marquez admitted that he still faces physical challenges, especially when negotiating quick changes of direction on the bike.

Physical Challenges Expected at Brno’s Demanding Layout

Speaking ahead of the Brno race, Marquez noted that unlike the tighter Sachsenring track where he first struggled, Brno’s faster and more flowing layout will demand more from his injured hand. He highlighted that the circuit’s complex sequence of corners requires frequent directional adjustments that may test his current condition more severely.

Marquez said he has passed medical checks, confirming the fracture remains stable and the bone has not shifted.

“I recovered quite in a good way, but my situation didn’t change in four days,”

he said, describing the progression of his injury. He added the importance of safeguarding his standing in the championship, especially with close rivals Pecco Bagnaia and his brother Marc Marquez competing.

Strategies and Mental Approach for the Weekend at Brno

With limited recent experience at Brno, Marquez anticipates a challenging weekend marked by new asphalt and a wide range of tyre choices. He emphasized the importance of adapting session by session while listening to his body’s signals on the bike.

“So, I’m a little bit worried about that. But when I’m on the bike I will see how I feel and from that moment try to go session by session and give our best in all the laps,”

he said.

Marquez underlined that the mental focus remains consistent with previous races: to minimize mistakes and keep close to championship leaders despite physical discomfort. The rider recognizes that success at Brno will depend on balancing cautious management of his injury and pushing for competitive lap times wherever possible.

Brno Race Could Influence Championship Dynamics

As the season advances, Marquez’s performance at the Czech Grand Prix will be a critical indicator of his ability to maintain his position against fierce competition. His cautious optimism and strategic approach could help him limit any loss of points due to his injury while gaining valuable experience on the Brno circuit.

If Marquez can manage his hand injury effectively throughout the weekend, it may allow him to stay close to Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez in the title race, keeping the championship fight intense as the season progresses.
