Marcus Armstrong Eyes Alex Palou IndyCar Championship Consistency After First Podium with Meyer Shank Racing

Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong has set his sights on achieving the kind of Alex Palou IndyCar championship consistency that has defined the reigning champion’s remarkable career. After securing his first podium finish with MSR by placing third in the 2025 Iowa Speedway Race 2, Armstrong expressed his determination to maintain steady performance throughout the season like Palou.

Alex Palou continues to dominate IndyCar’s top tier of open-wheel racing, having claimed his seventh win in the first 12 races of the 2025 season at Iowa Race 2. The three-time series champion has established an unprecedented level of excellence, reinforcing his status as the driver to beat this year.

Inspired by Palou’s relentless performance, Armstrong discussed his ambition to reach that benchmark of consistency during his post-race interview at Iowa Speedway.

“Yeah, we are just getting better every single race. I’m jelling with my crew better and better every race, but this championship is so competitive, you need to be on it every single session, every single lap, every single session, just like Alex Palou is. So we are getting there!” —Marcus Armstrong

After 12 races in the 2025 season, Palou is firmly leading the drivers‘ standings, building on a dominant 2024 campaign where he secured the championship with 544 points. His prior season highlights included two Grand Prix victories, three pole positions, and 13 top-five finishes that underscored his consistency and speed.

In comparison, Armstrong finished 14th in the 2024 standings with 298 points, including four top-five results, reflecting his potential but also the gap he aims to close to reach Palou’s elite level.

Armstrong’s Strong Showing at Road America Builds Momentum

Marcus Armstrong’s success is not limited to his podium in Iowa. Earlier in the season, he delivered an impressive fifth-place finish at Round 9 in Road America, demonstrating steady improvements in both racecraft and strategy.

“It was a good race—we stuck to our plan, I thought that we did a very good job with the strategy. Unfortunately we got pushed off track a couple of times by some people who were way off the pace. But we kept our cool, saved some fuel, and came back through. It was a good weekend, and we are just gaining some momentum with these top tens, and now we are heading to MSR’s home track at Mid Ohio so hopefully we can keep that up,” —Marcus Armstrong

At just 24 years old, Armstrong is rapidly gaining recognition as a talented driver able to challenge more experienced competitors. His performances this season suggest he is growing into a contender capable of maintaining the level of consistency needed to fight for the championship.

Meyer Shank Racing can look forward to the upcoming race at Mid Ohio, their home venue, with optimism as Armstrong builds momentum. His pursuit of the same steadiness Alex Palou has shown could shape the dynamics of the remaining 2025 IndyCar season.
