As the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs head to World Wide Technology Raceway (Gateway), Austin Dillon has confidently announced that he is here to compete for victories, not just to participate. The #3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet driver delivered a bold message to those skeptical of his chances in the postseason.
Currently in his 12th NASCAR Cup Series season, Dillon had a mixed year before securing his playoff spot with a win at Richmond Raceway last month. Despite a moderate campaign, he has achieved one top-five and five top-10 finishes, with an average placement around 20th.
“Watch out; don’t bet against us. That’s all I’m gonna say” —Austin Dillon, Driver
In the first race of the Round of 16 playoffs at Darlington, Dillon finished 23rd and now faces pressure to improve his performance at Gateway. Sitting 14th in the playoff standings, eight points shy of the cutoff to advance to the Round of 12, Dillon knows he must push harder to stay in contention.
How Austin Dillon Plans to Move Forward in the Playoffs
With notable victories such as the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on his record, Dillon is recognized for delivering strong performances during high-stakes moments. His successful runs at challenging tracks like Gateway, Bristol, and Darlington add to his confidence as he prepares for this critical playoff race.
Dillon emphasized that consistent finishes near the top 10 will be crucial for advancing through the upcoming playoff rounds, underscoring the importance of steady results rather than relying on one-off wins.
“Gateway ran six last year. Earlier this year we ran Bristol, 10th Darlington. I was really good the year before at the Southern 500. I feel good about it, man; it’s only go to take. I think it’s gonna take a top ten average, and you’re can to transfer to the next round.” —Austin Dillon, Driver
His best finish at the 1.25-mile Gateway track came in 2024, where Dillon placed sixth. In his other two starts, he finished 15th and 31st in 2023 and earlier in 2024, respectively.
Fans can watch Austin Dillon compete at World Wide Technology Raceway on Sunday, September 7, at 3 pm ET. The playoff race will air on USA Network and be available through NBC Sports streaming services.
