Brad Keselowski, co-owner of RFK Racing and NASCAR Cup Series driver, has adopted an unusual tactic inspired by NFL athletes: painting a black line beneath his eyes. This technique is used to reduce the glare inside his race car, improving his visibility on the track. Keselowski explained his approach during a recent Reddit question-and-answer session with fans, revealing the practical reasons behind this choice.
Typically, NASCAR drivers rely on tinted windshields to shield their eyes from direct sunlight. However, these tints create difficulties in judging whether the racetrack surface is wet, which is especially crucial during rainy conditions. Keselowski’s solution has been to avoid tinted windshields for races where rain is possible and instead use black eye paint to counteract sunlight reflecting off surfaces inside the car.
He described the compromise, stating,
“The problem with that is that it makes it very bright inside the race car. The glare gets worse. Using eyeblack helps to offset that without making it to where I can’t see the racetrack when it’s wet.”
By applying the black paint under his eyes, Keselowski reduces the interfering light more effectively than natural skin can. This helps maintain his depth perception and ability to spot essential details on the track, even under challenging lighting or weather conditions.
Keselowski’s Playoff Chances As the Season Reaches a Climax
With the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs closing in, drivers who haven’t yet qualified are preparing for their final chance to secure a spot. This Saturday’s race at Daytona serves as the last opportunity for competitors to win and guarantee their place among the 16 playoff drivers.
After a slow start to the season, Brad Keselowski has started gaining momentum in his No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Recent finishes include ninth place at Richmond, third at Iowa Speedway, and fifth in Indianapolis. These performances suggest Keselowski could qualify for the postseason if he places well at Daytona and seizes this critical chance.
Adding to his motivation, Keselowski recently became a father again, welcoming his fourth child on August 20. This personal milestone could inspire him to push even harder during the remaining races of the season.
