Brazil MotoGP Track Update: FIM Confident Amid Delay Fears

A senior official from the FIM, the governing body of MotoGP, has assured stakeholders that the Brazil MotoGP track update is on schedule, countering recent worries about construction delays. The Brazilian Grand Prix is set to return to the MotoGP calendar for the first time in over two decades, scheduled for March at the Ayrton Senna circuit in Goiania.

Significant Renovations Underway at Ayrton Senna Circuit

Brazil is poised to host the second round of the 2026 MotoGP season, with the event tentatively set for the weekend of March 20-22. The Ayrton Senna circuit, which last hosted a MotoGP round in the late 1980s, has since required major upgrades to meet current standards. In response, extensive renovation efforts have recently accelerated to prepare the track for its high-profile return.

The refurbishment project includes a complete relaying of the circuit’s asphalt, widening of the pit-entry to better accommodate modern racing demands, and upgrades to the medical center. The paddock area is also being enhanced. However, with the Grand Prix date drawing near and construction still underway, concern has been building around the possibility of delays.

FIM Provides Assurance on Project Timeline

Paul Duprac, serving as the FIM’s track commission sporting director, addressed these concerns in statements to GrandePremio.com and emphasized that the schedule remains on track. He noted the urgency of the situation but highlighted strong ongoing efforts at the circuit.

“The deadline is close and the teams on site are working tirelessly to finish on time,”

Duprac, the FIM’s track commission sporting director, said.

A dedicated FIM delegate is closely monitoring the progress at Goiania, providing weekly visual updates, including photos and videos. These updates reveal that the first asphalt layers have been applied, key access roads are in place, and barrier installation is largely complete.

“For now, there is no cause for concern. The Brazilian GP weekend will take place as planned.”

Duprac, the FIM’s track commission sporting director, said.

Recent Track Delays in MotoGP Raise the Stakes

The anxiety surrounding Brazil’s readiness is not without context. In recent years, several MotoGP venues have faced setbacks: the Hungarian round was postponed from 2024 to 2025 due to unfinished track upgrades, while planned Grands Prix in Kazakhstan and Finland were cancelled entirely over similar construction challenges.

These past disruptions have fueled unease among fans and teams about Brazil’s return. Nevertheless, the FIM’s confidence, expressed by Paul Duprac and validated through ongoing progress, reassures that Brazil’s MotoGP fixture remains on the global schedule for 2026.

Looking Ahead to Brazil’s MotoGP Comeback

The successful completion of the Brazil MotoGP track update would mark a pivotal moment for both the circuit at Goiania and MotoGP’s growing presence in South America. As the world championship continues to expand, all eyes remain on the final phases of the circuit’s renovation, with officials pledging to keep the Brazilian Grand Prix on track for its scheduled return.
