Cadillac advanced its entry into Formula 1 by revealing a special-edition livery for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team on Tuesday, ahead of the team’s initial on-track shakedown. This unveiling took place at General Motors’ new global headquarters in Detroit, two months before the team’s scheduled debut at the Australian Grand Prix on March 8.
The standout paint design will be featured from January 26 to 30 during the team’s Shakedown Week in Barcelona, Spain. Cadillac plans to present its official race livery separately on February 8.
Distinctive Design Reflects Heritage and Conceals Technical Features
GM President Mark Reuss emphasized the connection between the livery and Detroit’s automotive legacy, stating its purpose is to celebrate the brand while keeping key performance details confidential.
The testing livery embraces a largely monochrome palette, incorporating a modern representation of the Cadillac crest and shield predominantly at the rear of the car. These elements serve to mask aerodynamic details, much like the dazzle patterns used by prototype vehicles to disrupt visual lines. Vertical geometric patterns along the body further conceal design contours.
The patterning also includes the names of the founding team members from both the United States and the United Kingdom, highlighting the collaboration between the two countries in creating Cadillac’s Formula 1 effort.
Leadership Highlights Innovation and Global Strategy
Dan Towriss, CEO of Cadillac Formula 1 Team Holdings, described the livery launch as a part of the team’s innovative approach both on and off the track. He remarked,
“Cadillac Formula 1 Team is committed to innovation on and off the track,”
and added,
“Debuting our race livery during a globally televised championship broadcast challenges convention and brings Cadillac Formula 1 to a global audience.”
Upcoming Events Signal Growing Excitement for Debut
The shakedown car will be on display at the Detroit Auto Show through January 25, providing fans an early glimpse of Cadillac’s Formula 1 identity before the team moves on to European testing in Barcelona. With the Barcelona Shakedown, the forthcoming official race livery reveal, and the team’s Australian Grand Prix debut in Melbourne approaching, anticipation is building for Cadillac’s first season in Formula 1.
