Carson Hocevar Recalls IShowSpeed’s Hilarious NASCAR Ride-Along Chaos

During his Speed Does America livestream, popular streamer IShowSpeed visited Daytona International Speedway to experience a NASCAR ride-along with rising driver Carson Hocevar. The collaboration highlighted the excitement of stock car racing as Hocevar and track president Frank Kelleher joined Speed for a day at the iconic 2.5-mile superspeedway, giving fans an up-close look at the motorsport through the lens of a leading online creator.

A Wild Ride Along Daytona’s Oval with IShowSpeed

IShowSpeed, known for his energetic online presence and over 43 million YouTube subscribers, got a firsthand taste of NASCAR by riding with Carson Hocevar in the No. 43 stock car. Hocevar initially took the wheel, speeding around Daytona at 124 mph, creating an authentic racing experience for Speed’s livestream audience. Later, Speed took control himself in a NASCAR Racing Experience car, lapping the track solo while spotters communicated through radio, simulating a professional driver’s environment.

The chaotic and often humorous nature of the ride-along was apparent, as Hocevar remarked before Darlington qualifying that he wasn’t entirely sure what Speed was communicating during the drive:

“I could hear him a little bit. I don’t know if he was saying English. I don’t know if he knew what he was saying yet, but it was definitely funny. You could see him reacting and a little bit shocked. I think he’d probably a bit of an idea of what he was going to do in reaction, for the show part of it. And I think that all kind of probably fell out the window, when he actually fell out of the sights and sounds.” —Carson Hocevar

The unusual day ended with the duo riding a fire truck around the track and spraying water on the infield grass, moments that delighted both Speed’s fans and NASCAR followers for its spontaneity and entertainment value.

Carson Hocevar’s Familiarity with IShowSpeed’s Influence

Hocevar expressed that he was not unfamiliar with IShowSpeed’s content or the streamer’s online prominence. He acknowledged the vast influence Speed holds, especially as the creator travels worldwide and attracts massive audiences, adding a unique flair to each of his adventures on and off the internet.

“Yeah, I’ve watched him, or especially known of him. The influence he has. I’ve seen a lot of times when he goes to other countries and everything. It’s unreal, unlike anything I’ve seen is for sure, so… Yeah, I’m online quite a bit, so it’s hard not to see him on my feed,” —Carson Hocevar

This intersection of the digital streaming world with traditional motorsport offered a fresh perspective, bridging NASCAR’s intense competition with the lively energy of internet culture.

Hocevar’s Journey Toward the Darlington Round of 16

Carson Hocevar’s 2024 season has unfolded with both promise and obstacles. After earning the Rookie of the Year title last year, he returned this season behind the wheel of Spire Motorsports’ No. 77 car with ambitions to break into the playoffs. While Hocevar showed impressive speed at times, including six top-ten finishes and a win at the NASCAR All-Star Open, he struggled to maintain the consistency needed for a postseason spot.

The season was marred by mechanical challenges resulting in seven Did Not Finishes (DNFs) across the 26-race regular season. Beyond technical issues, Hocevar’s aggressive driving style sparked conflicts with experienced drivers like Erik Jones and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Though tensions have since eased, his bold approach has both defined him and drawn criticism.

Missing the playoff cut was a disappointment, but Hocevar, just 22 years old, remains one of NASCAR’s most intriguing young talents. His challenge now lies in channeling his raw speed and unyielding drive into a consistent and successful Cup Series career.

The Impact of a Unique NASCAR Streaming Crossover

The collaboration between Carson Hocevar and IShowSpeed at Daytona created a compelling crossover that introduced stock car racing to a new and diverse audience. By merging the fast-paced world of NASCAR with the dynamic and wide-reaching energy of internet streaming, this event not only entertained but also expanded the sport’s exposure.

For Hocevar, moments like this demonstrate his accessibility and willingness to engage with evolving fan bases, while for NASCAR, it represents an innovative way to attract younger viewers and keep the sport growing in the digital age. As the season advances, the spotlight on emerging talents like Hocevar continues to build, promising intriguing developments ahead both on and off the track.
