Ryan Preece Opens Up on Racing Teammate Chris Buescher for Final RFK Racing Playoff Spot

Ryan Preece has spoken candidly about the competitive atmosphere within RFK Racing as the regular NASCAR season nears its end. Currently sitting 17th in the standings without a win this year, Preece is right behind teammate Chris Buescher, who holds the 16th position, all while both drivers compete intensely for a spot in the playoffs.

The team owner, Brad Keselowski, has also yet to record a victory this season, adding pressure as the final two races approach. With three RFK drivers contending for a win to secure playoff entry, Preece was questioned ahead of the Richmond race whether the competition inside the team has intensified or altered in recent weeks.

Reflecting on Buescher’s recent remarks about transparency within RFK, Preece agreed that nobody‘s hiding anything” among the drivers and described the environment as positive and collaborative.

“I think the environment that we have at RFK right now is a really good one. I don’t hide anything from them. They don’t hide anything from me. I think ideally we would have all liked to have either won by now and kind of locked ourselves in… I’m grateful to be a part of this opportunity or have this opportunity because it’s been a lot of fun.” —Ryan Preece, NASCAR driver

Preece emphasized how important it is for a racer to feel fully engaged and able to compete at their best, especially after investing significant effort throughout his career.

Detailed Insight on the Battle Between Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher for Playoff Qualification

With only 34 points separating them, Preece at 17th and Buescher at 16th, the fight for the final RFK Racing playoff spot is extremely tight. Preece was asked if he anticipates racing aggressively against Buescher in the upcoming races at Richmond and Daytona, which are the last two chances to secure a spot.

He acknowledged the unpredictability of these tracks, particularly Daytona’s superspeedway, where outcomes can change dramatically, and Richmond’s variable tire strategies make it difficult to forecast which cars will have an advantage.

“Superspeedway, especially Daytona, anything can happen. We saw that last year. At Richmond, you don’t know who’s going to show up with the right package today for this option tire.” —Ryan Preece, NASCAR driver

Preece also stressed that a victory is likely essential to clinch a playoff berth, noting that both he and Buescher are weighing the best strategic approach to reach that goal.

“I think you’re going to have to win to get in to really lock yourself in. I think Chris and I are both trying to figure out what’s the best strategy for us. I have really fast race cars and go execute great races, and if you’re in a position for a green white checkered, and you have the opportunity to win, when it comes Monday, don’t think about what I should have done different.” —Ryan Preece, NASCAR driver

Approach and Attitude on Racing Teammates in High-Stakes Moments

When pressed about the prospect of racing Buescher for the final playoff spot, especially considering a previous on-track incident at Richmond last season, Preece stated he would not intentionally cause a wreck as it could jeopardize both drivers’ chances.

Nevertheless, he conveyed the mindset of a committed competitor who understands the stakes remain high, saying that racers must push hard but maintain respect for one another. Preece highlighted that being cautious is essential to success, but he also acknowledged how quickly fortunes can change in just half a lap.

As the regular season winds down, the intense battle between Preece, Buescher, and Keselowski for RFK Racing’s playoff presence will continue to captivate fans and influence the team’s future prospects. This internal competition not only drives individual performances but also shapes RFK Racing’s overall standing in the NASCAR playoffs race.
