In an exciting twist to their preparations for the upcoming Indy 500, Andretti Global drivers Colton Herta and Marcus Ericsson recently enjoyed golf lessons from professional golfer Marcus Byrd at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s golf course. This fun-filled event was highlighted in a video shared by Gainbridge, a presenting sponsor of the Indy 500, showcasing the camaraderie and skills of Herta and Ericsson as they swung their clubs on the Brickyard’s pristine greens.
As both drivers fine-tune their racing skills ahead of the 109th running of the Indy 500, they participated in two days of Indianapolis 500 Open Testing at IMS. Herta, piloting the No. 26 Andretti Honda, secured eighth place with a remarkable top speed of 231.463 mph, while Ericsson in the No. 28 Andretti Honda finished 12th, achieving a best speed of 230.075 mph. Not only did the duo display solid performance during these practice sessions, but they also relished a unique opportunity to unwind and connect through the sport of golf.
The Instagram video from Gainbridgesport captured Herta and Ericsson enjoying their time with Byrd, who provided tips and techniques to enhance their golfing prowess. The post included a caption celebrating this memorable day on the course, which undoubtedly deepened their friendship and offered a break from their busy racing schedules. Excitingly, this isn’t the first time Colton Herta and Marcus Ericsson have mingled on the golf course.
Last year, both drivers participated in The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge event at Pelican Golf Club, where they took on the role of guest caddies. They assisted renowned golfer Annika Sorenstam, Rolex World No. 1 Nelly Korda, and WNBA star Caitlin Clark during the Official Pro-Am event. Featuring 120 of the best female golfers from across the globe, this event had a staggering $3.25 million purse, one of the largest on the LPGA Tour. Both Herta and Ericsson expressed their enthusiasm about the opportunity, enhancing their profiles beyond the race track.
As they prepare for their next race at the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix on May 4, the excitement is building within the Andretti team and their fans. Following this engaging golf lesson, the duo looks forward to translating their teamwork and focus on the track in their upcoming races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the 2025 IndyCar schedule, standings, and race results as the season unfolds.
