Corey Day delivered a commanding performance at Perth Motorplex, clinching a Corey Day High Limit victory during the first night of the High Limit International series. Hot off an impressive debut where he surged from the back to second place on Boxing Day, Day once again showcased his driving prowess by quickly advancing from fourth position and overtaking Kaiden Manders for the lead within eight laps.
The Californian talent demonstrated skillful maneuvering on a night where local favorite Kaiden Manders refused to yield. Manders momentarily recaptured the lead following a late-race caution, but Day’s consistent pace prevailed, earning him a $15,000 prize. The tense exchanges on the wide Perth track made for an unforgettable showdown between top contenders.
Drivers Navigate Changing Track Conditions
Reflecting on his achievements at Perth, Day remarked,
This place is just awesome, it suits my style really well,
said Day of the Perth venue. He highlighted the challenge and reward of adjusting to varying track surfaces, stating,
“Definitely a different track tonight than we had on Boxing Day. It’s good to know we’ve got our car good in both of those conditions.”
Praising his primary competitor, Day added,
“Hats off to [Manders], he kept me honest for sure. It gets tricky in lapped traffic when you lose your clean air and your race car starts working a little worse. You just get to them and you and you really slow down.”
The complexities of traffic on such a wide circuit tested even experienced drivers, with Day noting,
I did my best to try and stay in clean air and keep it rolling, but it’s hard when the track is this wide.
Podium Places and Surprise Results for Big Names
Dayne Kingshott, representing Krikke Motorsport, secured third after an intense contest with Jock Goodyer that lasted the entire race. Buddy Kofoid—winner of the Boxing Day event—concluded in fifth place, finishing ahead of Perth Motorplex regulars James McFadden and Callum Williamson. The American presence was evident as Cole Macedo, Brock Zearfoss, and Brad Sweet occupied the next trio of positions, and Kerry Madsen, enjoying recent strong form, finished 11th.
The evening’s biggest surprise came from reigning High Limit International champion Kyle Larson. After holding a spot in the top ten early in the contest, Larson suffered a setback with a flat right-rear tire, forcing him to drop to the back and eventually finish 17th.
Next Stop for the High Limit International Series
The High Limit International action resumes at Perth Motorplex on Monday night, promising more suspense as drivers like Corey Day aim to build on their momentum. With international and local stars continuing to vie for glory, the competition remains fierce and unpredictable as the event unfolds in front of an enthusiastic Western Australian crowd.
