Daniel Suárez Endures Heavy Damage at Indy; Wife Julia Piquet Shares Hopeful Message After Crash

Daniel Suárez, the Trackhouse Racing driver, suffered heavy damage to his car during the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend. Starting 31st and running 23rd at the first green-flag run, Suárez was caught in a multi-car pileup triggered by Ricky Stenhouse Jr., which severely impacted his race and forced him to finish 27th. Suárez’s struggles at Indy highlight ongoing difficulties this NASCAR season as he seeks to improve his position in the standings.

Julia Piquet Shares Updates and Encouragement During and After the Crash

Julia Piquet, Suárez’s wife and daughter of three-time Formula One champion Nelson Piquet, took to social media to provide real-time updates about the crash and her husband’s condition. After the incident on Lap 56, which involved several drivers including Ty Dillon, Tyler Reddick, and AJ Allmendinger, she noted on X that Suárez’s No. 99 Chevy sustained “HEAVY front damage.” She added,

“Just reporting it because nobody else seems to be,”

reflecting her vigilance in keeping fans informed.

Following the incident, the Trackhouse Racing team worked quickly to repair Suárez’s car, allowing him to return to the track despite being three laps down. Piquet later shared a video showing the extent of the repairs and described the damage as “insane,” underscoring the severity of the crash.

“Waiting for our luck to turn,” Julia Piquet wrote.

“HEAVY front damage to Daniel’s car. Just reporting it because nobody else seems to be,” Julia Piquet wrote on X.

“Story of our season…” Daniel Suárez wrote.

Suárez’s Season Performance and Playoff Challenges

Despite his teammates Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen securing victories and playoff spots, Suárez has not yet clinched qualification for the postseason. He currently ranks 31st in the NASCAR Cup standings, trailing playoff contenders by 208 points. This season has been challenging, with Suárez recording six DNFs—the highest among full-time drivers—alongside three top-ten finishes and one top-five in Las Vegas.

Sunday’s race at Indy marked the fourth occasion where Suárez lost ground after the white flag during NASCAR’s green-white-checkered overtime restarts. A late rain delay contributed to the race’s extension, but Suárez was unable to recover lost positions, finishing well behind the leaders. Meanwhile, Wallace secured victory after a tight battle with Larson.

Uncertain Future as Suárez Parts Ways with Trackhouse Racing

Last month Daniel Suárez announced his split with Trackhouse Racing after five seasons as the No. 99 Chevy driver, leaving his NASCAR Cup Series seat open for 2026. The team has yet to confirm his replacement, though 18-year-old development driver Connor Zilisch is expected to step in.

Suárez’s options for continuing in the Cup Series appear limited. Legacy Motor Club may add a third car if legal issues around its charter are resolved, and Kaulig Racing is a potential destination if a seat becomes available, specifically if Ty Dillon’s position opens. However, if a full-time Cup ride does not materialize, Suárez could return to the Xfinity Series where he previously found success.
