Corey Heim’s passion for NASCAR began as a fan, like many drivers before him. Growing up, Heim raced in Legends Cars and made a name for himself in super late model competitions within the CARS Tour and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. His ultimate aim was to reach NASCAR’s premier levels, a goal that started taking clearer shape as he gained opportunities behind the wheel of Next Gen racecars.
In 2024, Heim initially drove for Legacy Motor Club before moving on to join 23XI Racing, co-owned by his childhood idol Denny Hamlin. This transition marked a pivotal step in Heim’s career as he prepared for full-time competition in the NASCAR Truck Series.
A Meaningful First Cup Series Milestone
Heim’s debut season in the Cup Series included a notable top-15 finish at Kansas Speedway, achieved while representing Hamlin’s 23XI Racing team. This milestone represented more than just a solid race result—it connected back to his earliest memories as a fan collecting autographs from the man he admired.
Reflecting on his youth during an interview with Jeff Gluck, Heim shared,
My family would go to the Fourth of July weekend at Daytona when I was growing up. It’s my birthday weekend (he was born July 5), so it’s always a fun thing for me.

He continued,
I grew up a big Denny (Hamlin) fan, so I remember going to his merch trailer at the time. His mom (Mary Lou) ran his trailer, and we had no idea, but my mom made it a point that it was my birthday to see if we could get something extra because it was my favorite driver. They gave me a rookie card of his that was pre-signed. I thought (it) was the coolest thing ever.
Development and Growth with 23XI Racing
Corey Heim’s journey has come full circle as 23XI Racing’s first developmental driver, directly signed by Hamlin himself. While competing full-time in the Truck Series, Heim drives the No. 11 Toyota Tundra for Tricon Garage. After finishing runner-up in the previous year’s points standings, Heim is off to a strong start in 2024 with four victories already and holds the lead in the championship race.
Denny Hamlin expressed his confidence in Heim’s abilities on his podcast, Actions Detrimental, emphasizing the team’s commitment to nurturing Heim’s career.
For us, we’re going to run him in some races this year, going to run him in some more races next year, and just see where the future holds for him. We’re excited to give him that opportunity. He deserves it. I’m glad that he chose 23XI.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Challenges and Opportunities
Heim is scheduled to race on the Chicago Street Course in the Cup Series next weekend, a chance to further demonstrate his skills as he gains experience on diverse tracks. As he continues to develop under Hamlin’s guidance, Heim’s story exemplifies the hopeful path from NASCAR fan to competitive driver, fueled by passion and perseverance.
