Denny Hamlin Poised to Re-Sign with Joe Gibbs Racing, Nears Historic NASCAR Milestone in 2026

Denny Hamlin is positioned near the front of the starting lineup for the Nashville race but may miss the event as he awaits the birth of his first son. With his family expanding, Hamlin has added motivation to finalize a new contract, continuing his NASCAR Cup Series career with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2026. Hamlin is currently in a contract year, making him eligible for free agency, but sources indicate a strong likelihood he will remain with the No. 11 team.

Current Contract Talks and Performance Overview

Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports a “high probability” that Hamlin will re-sign with Joe Gibbs Racing for next season. Reflecting on his contract discussions, Hamlin stated,

“Working on it. Should be something done somewhat soon.”

Through 13 races in the 2025 season, Hamlin has accumulated 390 points, achieved two wins, earned six top-10 finishes, and five top-5 finishes. He has led 371 laps but also recorded two DNFs, with an average starting position of 12.357 and an average finishing position of 15.231.

Longstanding Relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing and Sponsor Updates

Having spent his entire Cup Series career with Joe Gibbs Racing, Hamlin will turn 45 before the 2026 season begins. After the departure of FedEx as a long-time sponsor last season, the No. 11 car secured a one-year sponsorship deal with Progress Insurance, ensuring continued financial backing for the team.

Free Agency Landscape and Team Rosters for 2026

Several prominent free agents in the Cup Series have already secured new contracts. William Byron recently extended his deal with Hendrick Motorsports, while Kyle Busch confirmed he will return to drive the No. 8 car for Richard Childress Racing. This leaves Joe Gibbs Racing, along with teams like Team Penske, Hendrick Motorsports, and 23XI Racing, without any full-time rides available for the upcoming season.

Regarding rising talent, driver Connor Zilisch is expected to spend another year in the Xfinity Series, and Corey Heim’s advancement to a full-time Cup Series role appears to be a longer-term prospect.

Hamlin’s Drive Toward NASCAR History

With Hamlin anticipated to remain behind the wheel of the No. 11 car, he is positioned to chase a significant career achievement: becoming one of the ten winningest drivers in Cup Series history. Entering the Cracker Barrel 400, Hamlin sits four wins away from tying Kevin Harvick for the 10th spot on the all-time victory list, marking a major milestone in his illustrious career.
