Denny Hamlin Says NASCAR Lawsuit Won’t Stop 2026 Comeback

Denny Hamlin, the prominent NASCAR driver and team owner, recently commented on the ongoing NASCAR lawsuit, stating that while it presents challenges, it will not derail his plans for 2026. Hamlin acknowledged the complexities involved with the legal dispute but remains optimistic about the future of his racing career.

The lawsuit centers on NASCAR’s agreement not to sell or lease new charters until after the 2025 Cup Series season, as it seeks an injunction to protect existing chartered teams. Both 23XI Racing, co-owned by Hamlin, and Front Row Motorsports have claimed that losing their charters would cause irreparable harm, including the loss of drivers and sponsors. They are pursuing legal measures to retain those charters, while NASCAR has set aside six charters that are either inactive or contested, anticipating a trial in December 2025.

Following the qualifying round for the Cook Out Southern 500, Hamlin was asked how the lawsuit might impact the teams involved. He responded,

“I don’t know. It’s, you know, everyone has to deal with it. The team deals with it. You know, we have our own stuff that we’re having to deal with while going through this. But, you know, one thing’s for sure is 2026 will be better,”

Hamlin’s 2023 Season Performance Highlights

This season, Denny Hamlin has demonstrated strong performance on the track, securing multiple race victories that have bolstered his standing in the playoff hunt. Notably, he claimed victory at the Cook Out 400 in Richmond in March by leading 274 laps, showcasing his dominance in that event. He followed with a win at the Goodyear 400 in April, where he maintained composure through a late restart against tough competitors William Byron and Christopher Bell.

In addition to these triumphs, Hamlin has achieved several stage wins and consistently positioned himself at the front of the pack. His experience and resilience have been evident as he navigated early pole positions, traffic challenges, and late caution periods. These efforts have kept him firmly in contention for the season’s playoffs, aiming for his first championship title.

How the Introduction of the Next Gen Car Has Transformed NASCAR Playoffs

Denny Hamlin recently offered insights into how the Next Gen car, introduced in 2022, has reshaped the dynamics of NASCAR playoffs by fostering tighter competition and leveling the field. He emphasized that the cars now perform at more similar speeds, making track position and qualifying efforts increasingly crucial.

When speaking with motorsports reporter Bob Pockrass, Hamlin explained,

“Everything is just a little bit closer. Track position means a little more. Qualifying means a little bit more. Playoff points are spread out amongst the field. Slightly more than what it’s been in the past.”

He further elaborated on the competitiveness of the current field, remarking,

“I think, if anything, you’re looking at probably the bottom four guys right now chomping at the bit, knowing they’re only 20-some points out of the point lead. I think that it’s wide open from that stance of where you could have someone very unexpected make it to the Final Four.”

He noted that the presence of the Next Gen car has amplified the importance of every race and qualifying session, making consistency a vital factor in the championship race.

Looking Ahead: The Impact of the Lawsuit and Future Expectations

Despite the ongoing legal dispute surrounding NASCAR charters, Denny Hamlin remains firmly focused on racing and achieving success. The pending trial set for December 2025 will likely define charter rights moving forward, but Hamlin’s confidence in a stronger 2026 season suggests he is prepared to navigate any obstacles ahead. His resilience and competitive drive, combined with the evolving nature of the sport under the Next Gen car, make him a key figure to watch as the NASCAR landscape continues to change.
