Denny Hamlin Warns of “Cursed” Nashville Superspeedway Challenges as NASCAR Returns for 2024 Race

As NASCAR prepares to return to Nashville Superspeedway in 2024, veteran driver Denny Hamlin warns of the track’s unforgiving difficulties. Known for his candidness and competitive edge, Hamlin highlights the unpredictable challenges that have made the Tennessee concrete oval a tough battleground for drivers and teams alike.

Hamlin Reflects on Troubling Moments from Recent Nashville Race

With years of experience and three Daytona 500 victories, Hamlin’s reaction to Nashville’s racing hurdles carries significant weight. In a recent episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin revisited his 2024 Nashville Superspeedway race, explaining why the event felt especially frustrating despite holding a leading position.

“We’re dominating that race, down Ross [Chastain], passed him with, I don’t know a handful of laps to go,”

Hamlin recalled.

However, a sudden incident altered the race’s course. After Austin Cindric spun on the backstretch without contact, the caution flag was still thrown, disrupting Hamlin’s momentum.

“Then Austin Cindric plays grab-a** with somebody down the backstretch, spins, doesn’t touch anything, spins, does a 360 and keeps going — and they still throw the caution,”

Hamlin added.

Endless Over Time Restarts Lead to Chaotic Finish

This controversial caution set off a series of nine overtime restarts, extending the race well beyond its normal length and causing havoc for drivers. Hamlin described having to pit mid-race during these frantic overtimes.

“I had to pit after like the fifth overtime… maybe sixth, F***ing cursed.”

Despite commanding the race earlier, Hamlin ultimately finished in 12th place, visibly frustrated by how circumstances unraveled near the conclusion. His tone conveyed the mental toll Nashville Superspeedway exerts on drivers.

“We’re going to give it another go, Nashville, more PTSD,”

Hamlin said with a sarcastic laugh.

Why Nashville Superspeedway Presents Unique Challenges

Since returning to the NASCAR Cup Series circuit in 2021, Nashville Superspeedway has earned a reputation for wild, unpredictable finishes and grueling conditions. The one-and-a-third-mile concrete track’s tight configuration and demanding surface put relentless pressure on both equipment and competitors, amplifying the risk of chaos in the final laps.

For a seasoned driver like Hamlin—with 56 Cup Series wins and a respected legacy on the track—the ongoing struggles at Nashville underscore how this venue remains uniquely punishing. His frank remarks highlight the intense mental and physical challenges that continue to define racing at this Tennessee superspeedway.

As NASCAR teams return to Nashville in 2024, Hamlin’s warning adds a layer of anticipation and concern about how the next race will unfold on this demanding track. The unpredictable nature of the Nashville Superspeedway guarantees it will remain a test of skill, patience, and resilience for all involved.
