Justin S Carroll Bio
Justin Scott Carroll (born December 8, 1995) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He has competed part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the No. 90 Chevrolet Silverado RST and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for his family-owned team, TC Motorsports. To avoid confusion with another driver of the same name, he is often listed on entry sheets and results as Justin S. Carroll.
Early Life and Background
Justin Scott Carroll was born on December 8, 1995, in Williamsburg, Virginia. He grew up in the same Virginia community where he would later build his racing operation, and he completed his high school education at Warhill High School in Williamsburg.
Carroll is the son of Terry Carroll, who owns the family team TC Motorsports. The close family tie between driver and team owner has shaped the structure of his racing program from the earliest stages of his career, allowing him to campaign entries that he largely helps to organize himself.
Path to NASCAR
Carroll’s climb up the stock car ladder began in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. In 2014, he worked to land a ride with Michael Waltrip Racing, and the following year, through a partnership with Precision Performance Motorsports, he made his series debut.
His early K&N Pro Series East schedule included the usual growing pains of a young driver learning national-level stock cars. By 2018, Carroll had experienced his first DNF caused by a handling problem, the kind of setback that often teaches a developing driver how to manage equipment over a long run.
Justin S Carroll Career
Early Career
Carroll’s earliest documented national NASCAR involvement came through the K&N Pro Series East, where he linked up with Precision Performance Motorsports for his 2015 debut. The series gave him seat time on a variety of short tracks and road courses across the eastern United States, a traditional proving ground for aspiring stock car talents.
Through the late 2010s, Carroll continued to chase opportunities at the regional and national levels, balancing limited budgets with the demands of traveling to races. The experience laid the groundwork for his eventual jump to the Truck Series, where field sizes and competition are even larger.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Breakthrough
In 2020, Carroll announced that he wanted to move into the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series. He returned in 2021 with plans to run a part-time Camping World Truck Series schedule, but the loss of qualifying at several events kept him off the track that year.
On March 9, 2022, Carroll announced a three-race plan for the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, with additional events depending on sponsorship. He attempted five races that year and failed to qualify for all of them. His closest miss came at Bristol, where he was bumped from the field by just 0.145 seconds.
Despite the qualifying struggles, Carroll remained committed to the Truck Series. In an August 31, 2022, interview with Christian Koelle of Kickin’ the Tires, he confirmed that he and TC Motorsports intended to return to the Truck and ARCA Series on a part-time basis in 2023.
TC Motorsports Era
Operating as a true family team, TC Motorsports has allowed Carroll to control his own schedule and equipment choices. The team has run the No. 90 entry, alternating between the Chevrolet Silverado RST and the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, giving Carroll experience with two different manufacturer platforms.
The independent nature of the program has also meant racing with limited resources, which Carroll has accepted as part of the journey. Each season has been built around piecing together sponsorship and targeting specific races where the team believes it can be competitive.
Notable Races and Milestones
Although Carroll has yet to record a national-series start, his 2022 Truck Series attempt at Bristol stands out as his closest brush with a race, missing the field by only 0.145 seconds. The near-miss underscored how competitive the entry list can be and highlighted the fine margins that independent teams face in NASCAR’s top touring divisions.
Justin S Carroll Family
Family Background and Racing Lineage
Racing runs in the Carroll family. Justin’s father, Terry Carroll, owns TC Motorsports, the team for which his son campaigns the No. 90 truck. The father-and-son structure keeps the operation close-knit, with Terry handling the ownership side while Justin focuses on driving and race planning.
Personal Life
Carroll is a graduate of Warhill High School in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has often been listed on NASCAR entry lists and results as Justin S. Carroll to distinguish him from a different Justin Carroll who has competed in the CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour from North Carolina. The two drivers are not related.
2025 Season Performance
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Carroll has indicated his intention to continue running a part-time schedule with TC Motorsports across the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. The plan mirrors the approach he and his father outlined following the 2022 campaign, focusing on carefully selected events rather than a full-season effort.
With the team established and the No. 90 truck ready to go, Carroll’s 2025 outlook centers on finally cracking into a Truck Series race. The experience gained from his 2022 attempts, especially the narrow miss at Bristol, gives him a clearer picture of where to find speed and where to manage risk during qualifying.
