Erik Jones Drives Hope with Breast Cancer Awareness at Charlotte

Erik Jones, the driver of the No. 43 Tri-State/Massey Motor Freight Toyota Camry XSE for Legacy Motor Club, is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the third year running through the Window of Hope program at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. This initiative, which started with former NASCAR Cup Series driver Kurt Busch, continues to unite the NASCAR community in raising funds and honoring those affected by breast cancer.

Continuing Legacy of Support and Fundraising

The Window of Hope program returned to the Charlotte ROVAL as part of the kickoff to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Transferred to Jones from Kurt Busch in 2023, the program encourages all Cup Series teams to display a pink window net during the Bank of America ROVAL 400 to pay tribute to breast cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battles. Over $50,000 was raised in 2024 alone, underscoring the impact of this effort across the racing community.

The Window of Hope program was an opportunity that got passed on to us from Kurt Busch and it fit perfectly with the Erik Jones Foundation,

Jones stated.

It’s close to our core values, and we raised over $50,000 in 2024 alone. I’m proud to be back doing it for a third year, and it means a lot that all of the teams get involved. It’s such a good cause that brings our NASCAR community together.

Paint the Wall Event Brings Survivors and Awareness Together

To formally launch the month of awareness, Jones took part in the annual Paint the Wall event on September 30, joining Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and more than 100 breast cancer survivors at Charlotte Motor Speedway. During the event, he spoke about the Window of Hope program and revealed his No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE, which features pink highlights replacing its usual mint color in honor of breast cancer month.

Paint the Wall is such a great event, and I’m so happy to be able to participate in it again,

Jones shared.

It’s great to see all of the survivors out at Charlotte helping us paint the wall. My mom’s a breast cancer survivor so it hits close to home. She went through a battle about 10 years ago, and it’s near and dear to my heart, in a lot of ways.

Honoring Breast Cancer Heroes on the No. 43 Car

Alongside the pink accents adorning the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE, Jones will carry the names of two breast cancer heroes on the car’s door panels during the Charlotte ROVAL race. On the passenger side, Stephanie Virginia Ellen is honored. A lifelong NASCAR fan, Ellen lost her breast cancer battle in 2017; the last race she attended with her parents was in 2013 at Charlotte. Both of her parents are expected to be present at the event.

On the driver’s side, Jones pays tribute to his long-time manager and family friend, Amy Stein, who has played an essential role in his racing journey since 2016. Stein faced breast cancer in 2007 and has been cancer-free since, dedicating herself to promoting early detection both personally and through the Erik Jones Foundation.

Cancer has probably touched most people, probably in some way, through a family or friend,

Jones reflected.

They’ve known someone who’s went through that battle. I’m honored to have two names on my car who have battled it. These names tell both sides of the story, and I’m honored to help tell it.

Fundraising Efforts Extend Through Signed Window Nets Auction

The Erik Jones Foundation will auction signed pink window nets from the full NASCAR field during the Charlotte ROVAL weekend. The auction began on October 1 and will continue through October 8, with all proceeds designated to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Superior Health Foundation in Michigan, and Atrium Health, a local Charlotte partner of the Motor Speedway.

This year, we decided to go with three different charities,

Jones explained.

We’re hitting the Charlotte, Michigan, and national communities with Superior Health Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and the track’s partner, Atrium Health. All of these organizations do such great work in helping raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and assistance

Charitable Organizations Reflect Jones’ Regional and National Ties

The foundation recognizes Jones’ dedication to early cancer prevention and connection to both his home state of Michigan and North Carolina. The National Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1991 by breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail, who sought to educate women on early detection after her own diagnosis at age 34 in 1980. Her efforts emphasize the importance of mammograms and regular screenings.

Michigan’s Superior Health Foundation, located in the Upper Peninsula where Jones is from, was founded in 2012 after Duke LifePoint acquired Marquette General Health System. The Foundation’s Breast Health Fund provides financial aid for breast cancer screenings, diagnostics, and treatments, prioritizing individuals with limited income in the region.

Lastly, Atrium Health, a key Charlotte Motor Speedway partner based in North Carolina, has been actively involved in supporting breast cancer awareness campaigns at the speedway for several years.
