Fabio di Giannantonio MotoGP Crash: “We Were Closest to Marc Marquez, Who Is Untouchable Here”

Fabio di Giannantonio experienced a setback after crashing during the German MotoGP at Sachsenring, which denied him a potential season-best second-place finish behind dominant leader Marc Marquez. The Italian rider had been in strong contention, pushing hard before the fall at Turn 1.

Di Giannantonio’s Strong Challenge at Sachsenring

Starting from seventh on the grid, di Giannantonio quickly moved up to third by the first corner and then overtook Marco Bezzecchi to become the closest competitor to Marquez during the dry, 30-lap race. Despite Marquez extending his lead, di Giannantonio kept pace, aiming to maintain a gap from Bezzecchi rather than closing in on the race leader.

His effort came to an abrupt end when he lost grip at Turn 1 and crashed hard into the gravel, joining seven other riders who were unable to finish. He described the crash as tough but fortunately walked away with only minor bumps.

“The crash was hard in the gravel, but I am okay. Just a few bumps,”

di Giannantonio said.

Reflecting on the Race and the Crash

Despite the disappointment, di Giannantonio tried to focus on the positives. He explained his strategy during the race:

“I wanted to make my rhythm. I was doing it. I was trying to push a bit, to make a gap from Bez. And I lost the front.”

He remained realistic about the challenge Marquez posed at Sachsenring.

“We have to take the positives – we were fast, we were there. We were the closest rider to Marc, who is untouchable here.”

Emphasizing progress, he added,

“It means that we are getting stronger and stronger.”

Looking Ahead to the Czech Grand Prix in Brno

After this crash, di Giannantonio is turning his focus to the upcoming Czech round at Brno, which returns to the calendar for the first time since 2020. He expressed determination to come back better.

“We have to be super happy, with a big smile, and in Brno we will come back stronger.”

The Sachsenring race saw both di Giannantonio and Bezzecchi crash out from second place, allowing Marc Marquez to claim victory by over six seconds ahead of his younger brother Alex Marquez. Francesco Bagnaia finished in third place, completing the podium alongside the two Marquez brothers.
