Fabio Quartararo, the French rider, has candidly voiced his concerns regarding Yamaha’s performance struggles, particularly its reliance on track grip conditions. The 2021 world champion highlighted that this dependency leads to inconsistent race results, necessitating structural improvements to compete effectively across diverse conditions.
In his analysis, Quartararo explained, “Honestly speaking, the performance we had in Sepang, we used it in Qatar. And basically, doing a front row for me was clearly impossible. But the circumstances made it good.” His remarks underscored the role track grip played in their results, as evidenced by his admission that while they secured a front row, it was largely due to favorable grip conditions.
He elaborated on this issue: “We made the front row. Why? Because the grip on the track was high, we spun on Friday, on Saturday the grip was even higher. And then on Sunday after the Moto2 race the grip decreased, and we’re further away.” This pattern of performance fluctuations is a source of frustration for Quartararo, who concluded, “We totally depend on the track and not on our bike.”
In spite of his frustrations, Quartararo remains determined to adapt. “At least for me, I try to change the view a bit and try to make the bike behave a bit like the others,” he stated, focusing on maximizing potential regardless of track conditions. The significance of his commentary reflects a critical juncture for Yamaha as they strive to overcome technical limitations and enhance competitive potential.
