Fabio Quartararo’s hopes in the Misano Sprint race were dashed when he crashed, an incident he attributes to a severe rear vibration issue rather than rider error. The French rider explained that despite having competitive speed, unusual tyre vibrations caused his bike to become unstable, leading to the crash.
Unusual Rear Vibration Led to Loss of Control on Track
Describing the problem, Quartararo said,
“We experienced a strange feeling on the rear.”
He elaborated that,
“I didn’t crash because I was over pushing — already in the last corner on the left side of the tyre there was a lot of vibration, much more than usual. And arriving to Turn 2 the bike was jumping. I lost the rear and then the front.”
These unexpected vibrations severely affected the bike’s stability, making it impossible for Quartararo to maintain control despite his efforts.
Attempt to Continue Cut Short by Bike Damage
Though Quartararo initially tried to keep racing, the damage from the crash made it unfeasible. He stated,
“I wanted to continue, but it was clearly impossible, so I decided to stop.”
This decision reflected the severity of the crash’s impact on his machinery, forcing an early end to his race on the track.
Frustration Over Crash Not Being Due to Over-Pushing
What made the crash more disappointing for Quartararo was that it was not caused by riding beyond his limits. He emphasized,
“I’m frustrated because I didn’t crash for overpushing,”
underlining that mechanical failure, not excessive risk-taking, was responsible for his exit.
His strong qualifying performance, starting from third on the grid, had initially given him hope for a solid result before the rear vibration abruptly ended his race.
Impact on the Championship and What Lies Ahead
This setback at Misano is significant for Quartararo as it removes a potential opportunity to score valuable points in a competitive season. With Marc Marquez and other key rivals maintaining their positions, Quartararo’s challenge continues amid high tension. Addressing the mechanical concerns on his bike will be critical for his chances in upcoming events, where maintaining pace without technical issues remains essential.
