Fermin Aldeguer Poised to Break Marc Marquez’s 12-Year MotoGP Youngest Winner Record This Weekend

A longstanding MotoGP record set by Marc Marquez could be surpassed this weekend at Silverstone as Fermin Aldeguer aims to become the youngest winner in MotoGP history. The British MotoGP on Sunday will be Aldeguer’s final chance to break the record before he surpasses Marquez’s age at the next race in Aragon.

A Historic Youngest Winner Record at Risk

Marc Marquez set the youngest MotoGP winner record 12 years ago during his rookie season in 2013, winning at the Circuit of the Americas when he was 20 years and 63 days old. He claimed the victory ahead of riders Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, making a remarkable debut statement in the top class of motorcycle racing.

This weekend, Fermin Aldeguer has the opportunity to rewrite the history books as he will be 20 years and 50 days old at the British Grand Prix, a mere 13 days younger than Marquez was during his record-breaking win. After Silverstone, Aldeguer will no longer be eligible to break this record since he will be older at the following round in Aragon.

Silverstone’s Tradition of First-Time Winners

The British MotoGP at Silverstone has recently been a venue where new winners emerge, with seven consecutive first-time victors at the track. The list includes Enea Bastianini in 2024, Aleix Espargaro in 2023, and Pecco Bagnaia in 2022. Other riders such as Fabio Quartararo (2021), Alex Rins (2019), Andrea Dovizioso (2017), and Maverick Vinales (2016) also seized their inaugural Silverstone victories, suggesting the event favors breakthrough performances.

Fermin Aldeguer Emerging as a Strong Contender

Riding for Gresini on a year-old Ducati, Aldeguer has been showing promising progression and quietly threatening to challenge the established frontrunners. His breakthrough came at the previous event in Le Mans, where he claimed two podium finishes — in both the sprint and the grand prix — marking his first podium on a Sunday in the premier category.

With his teammate Alex Marquez currently ranked second in the MotoGP standings behind Marc Marquez, Aldeguer is confident in the competitiveness of his machinery. His consistent performance throughout the weekend at Le Mans demonstrated his ability to compete closely with the Marquez brothers.

A victory at Silverstone would represent a significant milestone for Aldeguer, not only as a personal achievement but also as a historic moment, as he would become the youngest winner ever in MotoGP, surpassing Marc Marquez’s 12-year-old record.
