Francesco Bagnaia faced a challenging start at the MotoGP Spanish GP in Jerez, finishing the opening session in seventh place, 0.701 seconds behind leader Álex Márquez. The Ducati Lenovo rider admitted that the feeling aboard his bike, the Desmosedici GP25, was not ideal, highlighting concerns in corners where he was previously strong.
“The thing is that I can’t do what I was doing last year. Looking at Álex Márquez or Franky [Morbidelli], they are doing it well. So, maybe we just have to try to focus on the new package and try a solution similar to what I was doing last year,” Bagnaia explained as he reflected on his struggles in Jerez, particularly in turns five and nine which were his strengths last year.
Despite these challenges, Bagnaia remains optimistic about adapting and aiming to exploit the strengths of the new Desmosedici GP25. He emphasized, “Right now, it’s like this, but the new bike has different good points. So, we just need to continue focusing on the good points and try to solve a bit what is wrong.”
As the competition intensifies, the race presents an opportunity for Bagnaia to regain last year’s form by refining his approach and addressing technical challenges. With a focus on optimizing the bike’s capabilities, he undertakes the necessary adjustments to improve his performance. The next sessions at Jerez will be crucial in determining whether Francesco Bagnaia can rebound and regain his competitive edge, carrying high hopes into future races.
