Hansford Tribute at Phillip Island MotoGP Honors Racing Legend

The late Gregg Hansford will be celebrated during the 2025 Liqui Moly Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, marking 30 years since his passing. This Hansford tribute Phillip Island event highlights his lasting legacy in motorcycle racing and motorsport history.

On-Track Homage Featuring Family and Historic Bikes

Multispares Racing, which supports Gregg’s son Ryan in Touring Car Masters and GT4 Australia, is central to this tribute. Ryan will ride an original Yamaha TZ350, a customer bike initially sold through Gregg’s Yamaha dealership, during a lap of the Victorian circuit after the first MotoGP Free Practice session. Additionally, Ryan’s brother Rhys will perform a lap on a period-correct Kawasaki 750 replica, further honoring their father’s influence on the sport.

Phillip Island Museum Display Showcases Memorabilia

Off the track, the Phillip Island Museum will host a special exhibition featuring Gregg Hansford’s racing gear, including his race leathers, helmets, and selected trophies. The display also includes a Kawasaki H2R alongside the Yamaha TZ350, highlighting key machines connected to his career. This collection will remain accessible to the public through Christmas, offering fans a chance to reflect on his achievements.

Legacy of a Champion Racer Remembered

Hansford earned 12 world championship Grand Prix victories in the 250cc and 350cc divisions, alongside major wins such as the 1993 Bathurst 1000 with Larry Perkins and the 1994 Bathurst 12 Hour with Neil Crompton. His career was tragically cut short by a fatal Super Touring crash at Phillip Island in 1995. The upcoming MotoGP weekend runs from October 17 to 19, with Marc Marquez having secured the current premier class title.
