Isack Hadjar, the Racing Bulls driver, has admitted that although he continues to shout and insult while driving, he purposely avoids using the team radio button during races. Known for his vocal presence in Formula 2, where he often expressed frustration openly over team radio, many expected him to bring the same intensity into his rookie Formula 1 season. However, Hadjar has demonstrated restraint in his communications behind the wheel.
Managing Emotions On and Off the Track
Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, the 20-year-old explained how he has worked on controlling his reactions during races.
“I’ve said it before. I’m still shouting and insulting, but I just don’t press the radio. So no one knows,”
Hadjar stated. He emphasized that his character remains the same but that the decision to refrain from radio use is simple to maintain.
He also reflected on his demeanor once the race is over.
“As I said, inside the car, I made progress with my thumb, but… Out of it, I think I’ve never been, you know, that kind of driver that gets out of the car and throws things at anyone,”
he said.
“I’m mad at myself. So I think so far you’ve seen a cool driver and that’s all.”
Strong Performance Impresses the Formula 1 Paddock
After nine races in his debut Formula 1 season, Hadjar ranks ninth in the drivers’ championship with 21 points, making him the second-best rookie among six newcomers, excluding Jack Doohan. His consistent showing has attracted praise, notably from Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko.
Marko described Hadjar as “the most impressive rookie.” Speaking on The Inside Track, he noted,
“He comes to a circuit which he doesn’t know, and within three laps, he is competitive.”
Marko highlighted how naturally Hadjar adapts to new tracks, regularly qualifying in the top ten sessions and demonstrating a compelling combination of talent and personality.
“He’s a regular Q3 qualifier. And it comes very natural. He also proved, in his personality – I heard some of his interviews, which were really funny – and also showing a lot of sense of humour, also about himself. He can laugh,”
Marko added.
Looking Ahead for Hadjar’s Formula 1 Career
Isack Hadjar’s ability to contain his intensity on the radio while maintaining strong race performances suggests a mature approach to his rookie season. His skill and calm demeanor have already made a significant impression, setting a foundation for future success in Formula 1. As the season progresses, observers will watch to see if Hadjar can continue to build on his promising start and clinch a higher position among his rookie peers.
