Isack Hadjar’s Uno Game with Hamilton Won’t Ease Race Rivalry

Isack Hadjar, the promising young driver from Racing Bulls, has shared insights into his relationship with his racing idol, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton. Despite bonding over a game of Uno recently, Hadjar emphasized that their friendship will not soften the competition between them on the track.

Hadjar’s Admiration for Hamilton’s Fairness and Work Ethic

Hadjar holds Lewis Hamilton in high regard, especially valuing his approach to racing and personal achievements. The rookie expressed,

“I’ll take Hamilton’s example, he never won a title [racing dirty], he always won mano a mano. He’s very, very fair,”

illustrating the respect he has for Hamilton’s integrity in the sport. He further confirmed Hamilton as one of his primary inspirations in Formula 1 alongside legendary driver Ayrton Senna.

Highlighting what draws him to Hamilton, Hadjar pointed to the Ferrari driver’s path into professional racing and his strong dedication. Beyond the racetrack, Hamilton is recognized not only as one of the most successful drivers in F1 history but also as a business owner and philanthropist through his charity, Mission 44. Hadjar remarked,

“Yeah, if there’s one guy on the grid who deserves his spot and worked hard for it with his grit, it’s Hamilton. He was able to make the difference. Everyone knows of his super-inspiring journey. On top of this, humanly, he really is a great person.”

The Unique Bond Formed Over a Game of Uno

Hadjar revealed a surprising and light-hearted moment they shared off the race track—a game of Uno. Despite the significant age difference, with Hamilton being approximately 20 years older, Hadjar felt the experience was memorable.

“Honestly, I don’t even know if anyone on the grid would suggest a Uno game to him! I think he’s happy that I ask him. Then, there’s obviously this age gap, the guy is 20 years older than me, so I can’t say ‘hey, you’re my mate, etc.’ There’s a bit of a barrier. But I think it’s cool for him, having a youngster who’s a fan and wants to spend time with him. I play it cool with him,”

Hadjar said.

Respect on Track Does Not Mean Leniency in Racing

Despite their personal connection, Hadjar made it clear that respect will not translate to a lack of competitiveness on race day. He stated firmly,

“No, especially not on track. There’s none of this. Even out of respect for him, if we end up on the same piece of track, I’ll give him a hard time – out of respect.”

This determination reflects the intense and competitive spirit both drivers bring to the sport.

A Meaningful Encounter During the Australian Grand Prix

The relationship between Hadjar and Hamilton’s family dates back to earlier this season when Hamilton’s father, Anthony, comforted Hadjar following an unfortunate crash during the formation lap of the Australian Grand Prix. Hadjar called it “a special moment,” appreciating the personal support from the family of his hero. Reflecting on the event, he shared,

“It was a nice moment, sharing time with someone like Anthony, the dad of my idol. It was quite a special moment. Lewis sent me a message later that day, so they’re really classy guys.”

Looking Ahead: Rivalry and Respect on the Horizon

Isack Hadjar’s interactions with Lewis Hamilton showcase both the admiration a new generation has for established champions and the relentless competitive nature that Formula 1 demands. Their friendly exchanges, including the unexpected Uno game, humanize these world-class athletes, while their drive to compete fiercely ensures the sport remains intense and unpredictable.

As the season progresses, fans can expect Hadjar and Hamilton to continue their on-track battles with passion and respect, underscoring the enduring rivalry that fuels top-level racing.
