Johann Zarco continued his strong performance streak by securing second place at the MotoGP British GP, riding the Honda RC213V for the Castrol Honda LCR team. This result marked his second consecutive podium, following his recent victory at the French Grand Prix. Unlike the previous race at Le Mans, Zarco’s achievement at Silverstone came under clear weather conditions, highlighting his competitiveness in dry settings.
Improved Start and Close Pace Behind Marco Bez Were Crucial
Early in the British GP, Zarco admitted to a lack of confidence on the large Silverstone circuit, aiming initially just to remain within the top six. However, the second start gave him better momentum, enabling him to race with improved consistency. A key factor in securing the podium was his ability to closely follow race leader Marco Bez, whose pace Zarco matched. This strategy allowed him to maintain pressure and ultimately secure second place.
– It’s different, but confirming the good performance in dry conditions – even if it’s a big track and I wasn’t so much confident at the beginning of the race. I was hoping to stay with the top six because the first start was not easy. But in the second start everything went much better, and then my pace was also very good. I think being able to follow [Marco] Bez was one of the key points to make it. Just this was enough to get the podium, it’s a bit like in Le Mans – this feeling of leading and just by doing your thing, you gain advantage and save the win. —Johann Zarco, MotoGP Rider
Podium Finish Brings Relief and Encouragement for the Team
Despite acknowledging that victory remains the ultimate goal, Zarco expressed considerable relief at achieving the podium finish. This result was particularly valuable for the Castrol Honda LCR team, contributing important points and boosting morale after a challenging weekend. Zarco recognized the difficulties faced early in the race weekend but celebrated ending with a positive result that sustains hope for continued competitiveness.

‘I can’t say it’s better than the victory because nothing is better than a victory. But clearly I had some emotions after the chequered flag, because it was a big relief to be there, get points for the team, for Honda, build what we are building, and keep so much hope. We know that a hard time can come, because the beginning of the weekend was not easy. But we finish with a smile’. —Johann Zarco, MotoGP Rider
