Johann Zarco Signs Two-Year Deal with LCR-Honda, Eyes MotoGP Glory

French MotoGP star Johann Zarco has secured a two-year contract extension with the LCRHonda team, ensuring his presence in the sport until at least 2027. At 35 years old, Zarco remains the most experienced rider on the current grid and aims to continue his pursuit of MotoGP success with this renewed commitment.

Zarco’s Rising Momentum with Honda

Zarco joined the Honda outfit in 2023, and his partnership with the manufacturer has become steadily stronger. Despite initially joining Lucio Cecchinello’s squad, Zarco has quickly established himself as Honda’s top rider this season, currently ranking ninth overall. Notably, he is the only rider to have clinched a Grand Prix win over the past two years, triumphing at the celebrated Le Mans circuit in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

The LCRHonda team’s progress has been remarkable, especially thanks to recent technological improvements on the RC213V bike. Zarco’s victory at the prestigious 8 Hours of Suzuka endurance race, alongside teammate Takumi Takahashi, has further enhanced his key status within Honda‘s racing program.

Zarco Shares His Excitement About the Deal

Reflecting on his contract renewal, Zarco expressed his enthusiasm, stating,

“I’m thrilled to confirm that I will stay with LCR for the next two years,”

and added,

“This is crucial as we have ambitious goals ahead and tremendous opportunities as we approach 2027.”

He acknowledged the momentum gained since joining Honda and the motivation it has given him to continue.

“We’ve already achieved a victory with Lucio and the team, and it would be fantastic to relive that experience. We are determined to continue fighting for excellent results,”

Zarco emphasized, underscoring the vital support Honda has provided throughout their journey.

Contract Details Reflect Integration with Honda’s Top Riders

Zarco’s new contract matches the terms of Honda’s official factory riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini. Beyond the financial package, the agreement guarantees Zarco will receive technical updates simultaneously with these riders, ensuring he remains competitive amid ongoing developments.

Team Owner Lucio Cecchinello Praises Zarco’s Role

Lucio Cecchinello, team owner of LCR, celebrated Zarco’s contract extension and his professionalism. He remarked,

“Working with Johann is simply extraordinary; his professionalism is impeccable on and off the track.”

Cecchinello also highlighted the importance of continuity, stating,

“We are pleased that HRC has renewed its trust in him for the next two years, and we believe his contributions to the RCV’s development in 2026 and 2027 will be crucial in our mission to bring Honda back to the top of the standings.”

Possible Changes in Zarco’s Teammate Position

While Zarco’s future with LCRHonda is secure, speculation surrounds the status of his teammate. Reports indicate that Somkiat Chantra may depart the team after this season, with Moto2 rider Diogo Moreira reportedly signed up for a three-year contract to move up to MotoGP and join LCRHonda.

Honda’s Continued Commitment with Rider Renewals

In a broader context, Honda has demonstrated strong commitment to its MotoGP roster. Earlier on the same day as Zarco’s announcement, the team officially renewed Luca Marini’s contract, reinforcing their stability ahead of the summer break and the championship’s penultimate round in Brno.

Looking Ahead to a Competitive Future

Johann Zarco’s two-year deal with LCRHonda positions both rider and team for an intense quest to reclaim MotoGP glory. With continual technical upgrades, strategic support from Honda, and a potentially refreshed teammate lineup, the partnership is poised to challenge the frontrunners in the seasons ahead. Fans and followers can anticipate lively competition as the 2026 and 2027 seasons unfold.
