Lewis Hamilton Cleared Again by FIA in 2024 Tyre Inspection Scare

Lewis Hamilton’s SF-25 was subjected to an FIA tyre pressure inspection after the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, amid concerns linked to issues that had previously affected Mercedes this season. The FIA confirmed Hamilton’s car complied fully with tyre regulations, allowing his sixth-place finish at Monza to stand uncontested.

At the Italian GP, Hamilton managed a solid recovery drive to finish sixth after starting tenth, marking his first race at Monza as a Ferrari driver. This result contributed to Ferrari expanding their lead over Mercedes in the fight for second place in the constructorschampionship, with teammate Charles Leclerc finishing fourth.

FIA Technical Inspection Addresses Tyre Pressure Concerns

Following the race, the FIA issued a statement noting that Hamilton’s SF-25 was examined for tyre cold pressures by the technical delegate. This scrutiny reflected a similar issue that had penalized both Hamilton and George Russell’s Mercedes cars at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix, when Mercedes faced a €10,000 fine due to infringements related to tyre pressures.

Unlike that previous instance, the recent inspection found Hamilton’s car within the required standards, confirming adherence to FIA rules. This cleared the way for Hamilton’s official race result to remain unchanged. Additionally, the cars of Kimi Antonelli and Alex Albon were also inspected and were found compliant with all tyre regulations.

Hamilton’s Performance Highlights Resilience at Monza

During the race, Hamilton demonstrated strong pace by climbing four positions inside the first seven laps. Despite beginning in tenth place, he closed the gap to his teammate Leclerc to just 12 seconds, showcasing competitiveness and determination on Ferrari’s home circuit.

Nevertheless, Ferrari’s passionate fans likely hoped for at least one driver on the podium, as the pressure intensifies for the team during their home Grand Prix. Hamilton has yet to secure a podium finish since joining Ferrari and currently occupies sixth place in the drivers’ standings, trailing 46 points behind Leclerc.

Implications for the Championship Battle and Team Dynamics

This FIA clearance removes any immediate concerns surrounding Hamilton’s vehicle compliance and allows Ferrari to focus on strengthening their season ambitions. As the constructors’ championship battle with Mercedes heats up, maintaining regulatory compliance remains crucial for both teams.

Hamilton’s continued progress and consistent finishes will be vital in mounting a stronger challenge for the championship, while Ferrari aims to capitalize on their momentum in front of their home supporters. The next races will be pivotal as drivers and teams seek to solidify their positions.
