Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton has honored the dedicated individual who cared for his late dog, Roscoe, after the bulldog passed away earlier this week. Hamilton confirmed Roscoe’s death due to pneumonia-related heart complications, marking the loss of a beloved companion integral to his life and career. The seven-time world champion reflected on this difficult moment just days before the Singapore Grand Prix, highlighting the deep bond they shared and the support from Roscoe’s loyal caregiver.
Roscoe, a bulldog who became a familiar presence within the F1 paddock during his younger years, was often seen alongside Hamilton at race events. His role extended beyond being a pet; Roscoe was a constant companion throughout Hamilton’s racing journey. However, in his later years, the dog faced increasing health challenges, which limited his appearances to just one race during the 2025 season.
During the British Grand Prix in July, Roscoe made a notable appearance, witnessing Hamilton’s debut in Ferrari colors and meeting the dog of fellow driver Charles Leclerc, named Leo. As Roscoe’s condition worsened, Hamilton regularly relied on Kirstin McMillan, a trusted dog trainer and family friend, to care for him due to the frequent demands of F1 travel.

Hamilton publicly expressed gratitude toward McMillan, who also cared for his other dog, Coco, before her passing in 2020. On his Instagram story, Hamilton urged his followers to recognize her dedication:
I want you to take the time to uplift my amazing friend Kirstin,
Hamilton said.
She trained both Roscoe and Coco and treated them like family. She helped look after their health and it is really through her that Roscoe lived so long.
He continued,
While I was travelling she would take care of him and loved him as if he was hers. She was there every day, all day. Even with a family and other dogs to look after, she never missed a day.
Hamilton also revealed the emotional support McMillan provided during Roscoe’s final moments, stating:
We stood together when letting Roscoe go. I am so grateful to have had her in my life and Roscoe’s life. There is nobody like you Kirstin. Thank you.
Remembering Roscoe’s Impact and Enduring Spirit
The 40-year-old Ferrari driver openly mourned Roscoe’s passing on Sunday evening, emphasizing the dog’s “beautiful soul” and his long-standing presence in Hamilton’s life. Roscoe shared the same plant-based diet as his owner and frequently appeared in Hamilton’s social media posts, projecting their close connection. Despite spending four days on life support, Roscoe’s health deteriorated, leading to Hamilton’s heartbreaking decision to say farewell.
Hamilton described this moment as the most difficult decision he has ever faced:
I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end. I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.
He added,
He died on Sunday evening, 28th September in my arms.
As Hamilton prepares to return to competition at the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, he carries the emotional weight of this recent loss. The week away from racing has been overshadowed by his grief, but his resilience remains evident as he looks ahead to the challenges on the track.
Roscoe’s enduring presence not only symbolized companionship for Hamilton but also highlighted the profound connections beyond the sport. The care provided by Kirstin McMillan ensured that Roscoe’s final years were filled with love and attentiveness, underscoring the importance of support systems in times of hardship.
