Lewis Hamilton Plans Key Ferrari Talk with Sebastian Vettel Soon

Lewis Hamilton, facing a challenging start to his career with Ferrari, has expressed his intention to discuss his current situation at the Italian team with former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton hopes this Lewis Hamilton Ferrari discussion will provide insights from Vettel, who spent five seasons at Ferrari but was unable to secure a championship during his tenure from 2015 to 2020.

The British driver joined Ferrari aiming to regain a competitive edge and return the team to championship contention. However, in his debut season with the Maranello-based outfit, Hamilton has yet to achieve a podium finish, highlighting the difficulties Ferrari continues to face in reclaiming its former glory.

Vettel’s time at Ferrari started with high hopes as well, inspired by his idol Michael Schumacher. Although Vettel achieved 14 victories with the Scuderia, he was not able to claim the coveted fifth drivers’ title.

When asked by Le Equipe if he planned to seek advice from Fernando Alonso or Sebastian Vettel about their Ferrari experiences, Hamilton revealed his preference for speaking with Vettel over the current break in the racing calendar:

“Honestly, I haven’t spoken to either of them. I don’t talk much with Fernando [Alonso]. Seb [Vettel], on the other hand, has been very supportive, he has truly been incredible, a very good friend over the years. I intended to talk to Seb during this break, I think I will do it soon. I haven’t called him this year because I’m not often on my phone. I didn’t want to bother him and before, I didn’t want to talk to him because I didn’t want to have preconceived ideas. With six, eight months of experience, I have a good idea of the situation, so I will probably discuss it with him soon.”

Vettel Acknowledges Hamilton’s Discontent with Ferrari Performance

Sebastian Vettel, having firsthand experience with the frustrations that come from competing at Ferrari during a non-dominant era, understands the challenges Lewis Hamilton currently faces. Vettel moved to Ferrari from Red Bull with the aim of winning more championships but was met with Mercedes’ overwhelming dominance when the turbo-hybrid era began.

Speaking on Sky Sports F1 earlier this year, Vettel recognized Hamilton’s high personal standards and how the current struggles with Ferrari would likely leave him dissatisfied:

“Of course, I know that he has very high ambitions and very high expectations. So at the minute, I know that he’s probably not happy with himself, with how competitive he is.”

Despite this, Vettel believes Hamilton’s work ethic and determination will push him to overcome these setbacks and help Ferrari return to being front-runners in the championship battle.

Current Difficulties Mark Hamilton’s First Season with Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 campaign has been underwhelming by his standards, scoring only 117 points over 16 race weekends. This performance is a notable drop from his achievements in recent seasons and underscores the struggles both he and Ferrari are experiencing this year.

The setback highlights how difficult it remains for Ferrari to combat the superiority shown by rival teams like Mercedes in previous years, emphasizing that the championship fight remains a steep climb.

Implications for Ferrari’s Future and Hamilton’s Prospects

The planned discussion between Hamilton and Vettel could provide the current Ferrari driver with valuable perspective on dealing with the team’s enduring challenges. Vettel’s experience at Ferrari, mixing moments of success with unfulfilled championship ambitions, mirrors some of the issues Hamilton now confronts.

As Hamilton gains more time with the team and continues his Lewis Hamilton Ferrari discussion with Vettel, he may be better equipped to navigate Ferrari’s internal dynamics and find pathways to improve performance. This exchange could be crucial as Ferrari aims to reclaim its place among the elite teams in Formula 1.

For Hamilton, these conversations—and the lessons drawn from them—might be instrumental in shaping his approach to the remainder of the season and beyond, as he endeavors to restore Ferrari to championship contention and add to his own legacy within the sport.
