MotoGP CEO Refuses to Curb Marc Marquez’s Unstoppable Dominance

MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta firmly stated that Dorna will not take action to limit Marc Marquez’s overwhelming dominance in the championship, emphasizing that the 32-year-old rider has not yet received the global recognition he merits. This declaration came during the launch event for the 2025 Catalan Grand Prix held at Barcelona’s Miró Foundation, near the historic Olympic mountain track where the Spanish Grand Prix was hosted for over two decades.

The event was chaired by Miquel Samper, the Circuit de Catalunya president and minister of business and labor, who praised the circuit as one of the world’s finest and noted that the MotoGP race alone generates 125 million euros annually out of the total 500 million euros the facility brings in each year.

Carmelo Ezpeleta Addresses Marquez’s Championship Prospects

During a meeting with media following the Catalan Grand Prix presentation, Ezpeleta was questioned about Marc Marquez’s chances of securing the world title at the upcoming Misano Grand Prix. He responded that, while Marquez’s dominance is foreseeable, the championship is not decided until mathematically secured.

The way things have been going, it’s not something that takes us by surprise. But we can’t say it’s a done deal until it happens; anything can happen,

Ezpeleta remarked, adding that Marquez cannot be champion at Barcelona, so discussions about that possibility are premature.

Ezpeleta reflected on the earlier era of MotoGP when multiple winners per season were common, observing that fans then felt the sport lacked a true hero. He contrasted that with the current landscape where Marquez’s consistent victories prompt concerns about the season finishing too early.

Now we have one, he wins every race, and the same people say that we will have a champion too soon. I don’t think so. Marc is having an extraordinary season, and when he has to be champion, he will be.

Dorna’s Stance on Maintaining Competitive Integrity Amid Marquez’s Success

Despite some voices labeling MotoGP as less exciting due to Marquez’s winning streak, Ezpeleta made clear that the organization will not intervene to disrupt his success. He stressed that the championship rewards the best riders, whoever they may be.

Absolutely not, this is the world championship and the best riders are the ones who win,

the CEO declared.

He added that Marquez will only be stopped if a rival emerges who is confident and equipped enough to challenge him. Ezpeleta affirmed that no regulatory measures will be employed to suppress any rider’s victories.

The only way Marquez will stop winning is if another rider comes along who believes he can beat him and has the tools to do so. We will never, ever stop a rider from winning.

Ezpeleta also discussed the concessions introduced in previous seasons intended to level the playing field, highlighting Aprilia’s progress. He expressed hope that upcoming technical regulations slated for 2027 could reshape competition dynamics while reiterating that the essence of the championship must remain untouched.

At the time, we introduced concessions, and manufacturers such as Aprilia have taken a huge step forward. Personally, I believe that the new technical regulations for 2027 will change the scenario, but we’ll see,

he added.

We have to do things so that everyone is on the same footing, but the show cannot be changed, we are not thinking about it and we are not going to do it.

Ezpeleta Declines to Compare Marquez Directly with Valentino Rossi

Reflecting on the decade that has passed since the contentious Sepang clash between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi, Ezpeleta declined to draw direct comparisons between the two champions. He emphasized that both have unique legacies and distinguished careers that should be appreciated separately.

Marc is Marc, who is very good. And Vale, too, and that’s not up for debate.

Ezpeleta acknowledged the significant impact Rossi had on the sport but underscored Marquez’s remarkable resurgence after serious injuries that nearly ended his career. He praised Marquez’s wise career decisions, particularly his transition from Honda to Ducati, allowing him to continue competing at the highest level.

Personally, I was sure he would return to this level. I followed his entire injury and recovery, and seeing him and the doctors, I knew he would,

Ezpeleta explained.

He concluded by reiterating that Marquez has not yet attained the full global recognition he deserves for his achievements.

Marquez has not been given the global importance he deserves.
