Marc Marquez delivered an impressive performance at the Brno MotoGP Sprint race despite complications with his tire pressure. Although a last-minute crash prevented him from claiming pole position, Marquez quickly made his mark by overtaking Pecco Bagnaia early in the race. He then extended his lead before encountering issues that forced him to slow down and tactically recover by following other riders to bring his tire pressures back into the optimal range. This strategy ultimately helped him cruise to victory without receiving any penalties.
Strategic Patience and Tire Management Enable Victory
Marquez’s racing tactics played a crucial role in overcoming the tire pressure complication, which mirrored a similar issue he faced previously in Thailand. He explained in a post-race interview how he monitored his dashboard to ensure his tire pressures stayed within the correct range.
“It was like in Thailand; the dashboard indicates if the rider is within the correct range. I saw I was on the outside, waited for a few riders, saw I was good behind Acosta, and when I saw ‘+0’ on the dashboard, I passed him. I didn’t know I was under observation. They confirmed it to me now, but well, it was a race we could manage thanks to our superior speed, and not much else.”

Demonstrating his control and confidence, Marquez slowed down initially to preserve his tires and only increased his pace once he was certain the pressures were stabilizing.
“I started riding very slowly at the beginning, following the trajectories without pushing too hard on the front, which is often the breaking point. But then I noticed that the pressure wasn’t increasing much, and instead of giving up or waiting for others, I decided to do a quick lap, attacking much harder on the brakes. It wasn’t enough, and I had no choice but to wait for them on that lap. I knew that if the temperature rose, I would have two laps ahead to attack the one in front, and I didn’t know who would come.”

New Brno Asphalt Provides Unique Challenges and Advantages
In addition to his riding tactics, Marquez praised the newly resurfaced track at Brno for offering excellent grip, which influenced bike handling considerably. He remarked,
“This weekend, the asphalt is really nice. It’s one of the best I’ve ever ridden on, but it significantly alters the balance of the bike. It feels like riding a different bike, which is also an advantage because there are several manufacturers in the mix. The riding feels very strange; it feels like you’re going slowly, but in the end, the lap time is crucial.”
