Marc and Alex Marquez’s Thrilling MotoGP Rivalry
Marc Marquez has acknowledged the intriguing possibility of facing his brother Alex in a battle for the MotoGP World Championship title. With an electrifying start to the season and seven wins in eight races aboard the factory Ducati, Marc has firmly established himself as the 2025 title favorite. Meanwhile, his brother Alex, despite riding the previous year’s Desmosedici GP24, has amazed fans with his performance, achieving seven second-place finishes in a row and briefly leading the championship after the COTA race.
Alex’s impressive form has placed him as Marc’s closest contender, trailing by just 17 points and maintaining a nine-point lead over Marc’s teammate, Francesco Bagnaia. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Jerez round, Marc expressed pride in Alex’s accomplishments and how his brother has managed to shine despite the inevitable comparisons with him. “I’ve always been very proud of Alex—of how he’s handled things over the years, and now he’s showing what he’s capable of,” noted Marc Marquez.
The Marquez brothers previously shared a garage at Gresini in 2024, a season pivotal for both. Marc used it to regain confidence post-Honda, and Alex significantly improved his performance, showing the fruits of their mutual support. “It really helped him that we shared a team because we supported each other a lot in the same garage, working the same way,” Marc explained. Their collaboration continues, albeit with separate teams and strategies, both at home and on the track.
As the season unfolds, the Marquez household becomes the epicenter of the MotoGP standings, bringing a contagious, positive energy. This supportive dynamic helps fuel their ambitions while presenting the reality that they might have to face each other as the fiercest rivals for the title. Marc remarked on this unique atmosphere, “When you have such positive energy, you just want to keep doing things. So it’s important to manage that energy.”
With competitors like Bagnaia playing catch-up and Jorge Martin injured, Marc remains focused on the possibility of Alex being his main challenger as the championship progresses. “Technically, each of us has our team, strategies, and way of seeing things, but from a sporting perspective, we support one another,” said Marc. “Although I’m very aware that, by the end of the season, I might be fighting for the title against him.”
While Alex dreams of a MotoGP victory, he expressed a contentment with his current performance during COTA. “We are ‘Mr P2,’ but I’m happy with that! I don’t have any problem making P2 from here until the end. We need to enjoy the moment,” declared Alex, illustrating his satisfaction with his progress and readiness for future challenges.
