Marco Bezzecchi secured his fourth MotoGP win and his first since the 2023 Indian Grand Prix, delivering a landmark victory for Aprilia at Silverstone. This triumph ended almost two years without winning for Bezzecchi and marked Aprilia’s first success since Maverick Viñales’ victory at the 2023 Americas GP.
Silverstone Continues Its Legacy of Unpredictable Winners
The race at Silverstone demonstrated this season’s fierce competition, with Bezzecchi becoming the fifth different winner of the year, matching the total number of winners so far in 2024. This race also extended Silverstone’s streak to 11 consecutive MotoGP Grands Prix featuring different winners, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the British circuit.
Significance of Aprilia’s Milestone Victory
Bezzecchi’s win is a major achievement for Aprilia, marking only their third rider to claim a premier class victory alongside Aleix Espargaró, who has three wins, and Viñales with one. This also represents Aprilia’s second triumph at Silverstone, following Espargaró’s 2023 success, increasing the manufacturer’s total premier class victories to five.
Podium Finishers Highlight Consistent Performances
The podium was completed by Johann Zarco, who earned his first consecutive podium finishes since 2023, and Marc Márquez, who recovered to third place after crashing while leading before the race was red-flagged. Márquez’s third podium this season and fourth at Silverstone help him maintain the points lead in the championship, holding a 24-point advantage over his brother Alex Márquez.
Honda’s Strong Podium Run and Ducati’s Continued Streak
Honda celebrated consecutive podiums for the first time since 2021, with Márquez and Pol Espargaró recalling their strong finishes in previous seasons. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo, named rider of the race, was forced to retire due to technical issues after leading for the first 11 laps, his longest lead since his 2022 victory in Germany. Despite not winning, Ducati extended their remarkable streak to 73 consecutive podiums, though this marks the first time since 2022 that the manufacturer has failed to win two races in a row.
