Maverick Viñales is preparing for a strong return at the upcoming Aragón Grand Prix, following a less impressive showing at Silverstone. Despite the recent challenges, Red Bull KTM Tech3 Team Manager Nicolas Goyon remains confident in Viñales’ abilities and views the Aragón race as a key opportunity for his comeback.
Challenges at Silverstone Seen as an Isolated Incident
Goyon attributed the disappointing Silverstone performance to a combination of unforeseen issues that affected the team’s usual rhythm. He emphasized that these problems were unique to that weekend and not indicative of Viñales’ overall form this season.
“Maverick clearly had a below-expectation performance in the UK, mainly because we missed key moments of the weekend due to various problems,”
Goyon stated.
“We believe it was an isolated weekend.”
Focus on Qualification and Consistency for Aragón
The team’s main goal at MotorLand Aragón is to secure direct entry into Q2, which would reduce the pressures that have often complicated Viñales’ Saturday sessions. Viñales has demonstrated consistent strength throughout the season, and with a solid and stable foundation, the team expects better results to follow. Goyon noted the importance of early strong positioning:
“The most important thing is to put Maverick in a position to fight from Friday, so he doesn’t compromise the rest of the weekend.”
Tailoring Approach to Viñales’ Style and Leveraging KTM’s Performance on Home Turf
Viñales’ technical and calculated racing style requires precise setup adjustments and a brief window for adaptation, which the team recognizes as crucial for his success. Given KTM’s favorable history at Aragón, the Tech3 squad is optimistic that the combination of right preparation and track conditions will enable Viñales to display his full potential and make meaningful progress in the championship standings.
