Miguel Oliveira has expressed interest in continuing his MotoGP journey, suggesting that a partnership between BMW and MotoGP would be a logical progression, especially as BMW’s focus remains on World Superbike (WorldSBK). BMW’s potential entry into MotoGP, rumored for years, gains new weight with Oliveira actively participating in their WorldSBK campaign and voicing his support for such a move.
BMW’s Long Rumored Entry and the Timeline Challenge
Speculation about BMW joining MotoGP has circulated for well over a decade, picking up momentum after Suzuki’s exit from the championship in 2022 and following recent technical regulation changes planned for 2027. Despite the talk, the emergence of new 850cc prototypes from manufacturers like KTM and Honda signals that BMW may not have enough time to build and field a competitive MotoGP program by 2027. Instead, the company is prioritizing its WorldSBK ambitions, seeking a third straight riders’ title after Toprak Razgatlioglu’s recent success.
Miguel Oliveira Champions the Prospect
Miguel Oliveira’s involvement with BMW comes as the brand forms an all-new WorldSBK lineup featuring former MotoGP race winners, including Oliveira himself and Danilo Petrucci. As Oliveira concluded his stint in MotoGP’s premier ranks, questions arose about whether he foresaw BMW committing to a top-tier motorcycle racing project. When asked about the subject, Oliveira noted:

“I mean, I’m not the person to talk about that for sure and [I don’t know] their plans for the future,”

He emphasized BMW’s dedication to WorldSBK, saying:
“I know they are committed to WorldSBK and that’s what they want to do for next season. From ’27 onwards, I would believe that would also be the case.”

MotoGP as a Natural Step Forward
With BMW firmly established in WorldSBK, Oliveira sees MotoGP as the next logical destination. He commented on BMW’s influence and growth in the sport during his first tests with the German manufacturer at Jerez:
“They have been in the [WorldSBK] championship for over a decade now. So they are pretty much established there, and they are one of the strongest manufacturers,”

While he recognizes several factors would influence such a transition, Oliveira added:
“But I would love to see them [in MotoGP], for sure.”

Changing Tides in MotoGP Support
The landscape of MotoGP continues to shift, with a move to Pirelli tyres in 2027 on the horizon. This change will grant Oliveira valuable experience with the new supplier through his WorldSBK activities. Meanwhile, Toprak Razgatlioglu will embark on his debut MotoGP season with Pramac Yamaha on Michelin tyres, reflecting varied strategic focuses among top riders and manufacturers.
Looking Ahead to BMW’s Racing Future
While BMW remains tightly focused on WorldSBK glory, Oliveira’s advocacy and the current momentum in global motorcycle racing suggest that a MotoGP entry could eventually happen. The sport watches closely for official word from BMW, as the potential addition of another major manufacturer could reshape MotoGP’s competitive landscape in the coming years.
