Nick Cassidy Joins Citroën for Formula E, Balances WEC Drive

New Zealand driver Nick Cassidy will join Citroën Racing as the French manufacturer prepares to enter the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the 2025/26 season. Cassidy will race alongside two-time champion Jean-Éric Vergne, marking a major step for the team’s debut campaign.

Following his departure from Jaguar TCS Racing after the 2024/25 season, Cassidy embarks on a dual racing programme. Besides competing in Formula E for Citroën, he will also race in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Peugeot, representing both French brands in top-level motorsport.

Cassidy’s Strong Formula E Credentials and Partnership with Vergne

With a proven record in Formula E, Cassidy has achieved 10 race victories and 20 podium finishes, narrowly missing out on the championship twice—finishing runner-up in 2022/23 and third in 2023/24. His consistency and skill make him a key asset to Citroën’s fresh entry into the electric racing series.

Joining Cassidy is Jean-Éric Vergne, a seasoned Formula E driver who spent eight seasons with DS PENSKE. Vergne holds the record for the most consecutive starts (144) in the series and remains the only driver to have secured consecutive world titles in Formula E. Beyond electric racing, the Frenchman has Formula 1 experience with Toro Rosso and currently competes with Peugeot in the WEC.

Citroën’s Return to Global Motorsport with Formula E

Citroën’s arrival in Formula E signals the brand’s return to the international racing scene, where it has an impressive history of success. The manufacturer has won nine FIA World Rally Championship drivers’ titles with Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, eight manufacturers’ championships in WRC, three drivers’ titles and three teams’ championships in WTCC, as well as victories at the Dakar Rally and multiple cross-country rally titles.

On this new venture, Citroën described Formula E as

“an electric, innovative and passionate adventure that embodies our values and our vision for the mobility of tomorrow. Motorsport shaped our history, and Formula E represents its most visionary form – 100% electric, responsible, and connected, with spectacular races held in the world’s great cities.”

Upcoming Testing and Season Schedule

All teams, including Citroën Racing, will test the new Season 12 cars during pre-season sessions from October 27 to 30 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. The official start of the 2025/26 Formula E championship will take place in São Paulo on December 6, setting the stage for Citroën’s highly anticipated debut.

Significance of Cassidy’s Dual Commitment

Nick Cassidy’s engagement with both Citroën in Formula E and Peugeot in the WEC highlights his versatility and rising prominence in the world of motorsport. Balancing these two demanding series showcases his ambition and adaptability on the global racing stage. With Citroën returning to motorsport through a cutting-edge electric series and supported by experienced drivers like Vergne and Cassidy, the brand aims to make a notable impact in Formula E’s evolving landscape.
