Pedro Acosta’s 2026 Move: Why Ducati Is His Only Choice Amid KTM Contract Uncertainties

Pedro Acosta’s next career move is drawing attention as speculation grows around his future beyond KTM. Although bound by a multi-year contract, Acosta’s preference for 2026 is reportedly settled on joining Ducati, according to Italian sources. This decision stems from his frustration with KTM’s lack of competitiveness during his second MotoGP season, making the search for a more competitive ride crucial.

Despite his growing reputation as a promising talent, Acosta has openly expressed dissatisfaction with KTM’s performance. Speaking after the Silverstone race, he admitted, “I’m not patient,” revealing the tension surrounding his current situation. This unease underscores why many expect him to prioritize performance and results when considering team options.

Why Ducati Is the Only Viable Option for Acosta

Reports from Sky Italia confirm that Acosta will not entertain offers from any manufacturer other than Ducati.

“He is not willing to accept other solutions,”

the MotoGP broadcaster stated. This stance rules out Honda, a team previously linked to the rider, despite their financial strength. Honda’s policy of avoiding riders under contract with other manufacturers further hinders their chances, especially since Acosta demands a competitive bike immediately.

Ducati’s general manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, recognizes Acosta’s exceptional talent and the potential he brings to the paddock. While Acosta remains cautious about severing his connection with KTM abruptly or through conflict, his contract situation complicates any immediate transfer. The possibility of riding a factory-spec Ducati within the VR46 team is being considered, even though that team recently extended Franco Morbidelli’s deal following his strong performances.

The year-old Ducati model used by VR46 this season suggests alternate openings for Acosta within Ducati’s ranks. However, his future may not be decided until much later, with Sky Italia noting,

“His future will probably be defined very late.”

Uncertainty Around KTM’s Racing Future Adds to the Complexity

Acosta’s situation also depends heavily on KTM’s plans moving forward. Although Bajaj Auto has resolved the financial issues facing KTM, the manufacturer’s long-term racing strategy remains unclear. This uncertainty further complicates Acosta’s contract and options moving into the 2026 season, deepening the tension around his next steps.

With KTM’s status pending and Acosta’s insistence on a winning machine, Ducati stands out as his only realistic destination, aligning with his ambitions and the need to advance his MotoGP career effectively.
