Pedro Acosta MotoGP Insights: Moreira Tipped for Stardom

Pedro Acosta, a celebrated Red Bull KTM rider and double world champion, recently shared his MotoGP insights regarding Diogo Moreira’s rapid rise. Acosta, referencing Moreira’s strong off-road background, believes the young Brazilian has always shown potential to thrive in MotoGP, even before his recent Moto2 championship and his first LCR Honda ride at Valencia last November.

Acosta has long noticed Moreira’s abilities, particularly his adeptness in flat track, supermoto, and motocross events. He emphasized how Moreira’s broad skillset and speed across various motorcycle disciplines foreshadow a successful adaptation to MotoGP.

“The guy is super talented for sure, you only have to see his videos making flat track, supermoto, motocross or whatever. He’s fast in all disciplines,”

Brazilian Rider’s Steady Progress and Testing Opportunities

Even prior to winning a title, Acosta argued that Moreira had already showcased enough ability to perform at MotoGP level, simply due to his fundamental riding skills. Though Acosta does not expect immediate dominance from Moreira, he confidently projects that the Brazilian will steadily become competitive at the highest level.

“I don’t think he will be that competitive from the first day, from what I read about where he will go [later confirmed as LCR Honda], but sooner or later, he can be competitive.”

Acosta has seen Moreira’s racing prowess firsthand, especially in off-road events. Both riders competed in Valentino Rossi’s prestigious 100km of Champions, where in January 2025, Moreira and Thomas Chareyre achieved a historic win as the first non-Italian team to claim victory. The following December, Moreira came close to repeating this achievement, finishing just seconds behind MotoGP stars Francesco Bagnaia and Augusto Fernandez while paired with Federico Fuligni.

Upcoming Season and Rising Stars in the Spotlight

As a rookie, Moreira remains eligible to participate in the Sepang Shakedown test from January 29 to 31, despite Honda’s adjustment in the concessions ranking. This test will prepare him for the official MotoGP session scheduled for February 4–6, where he will look to further demonstrate his promise.

Moreira’s main competitor for the Rookie of the Year title will be Toprak Razgatlioglu, the reigning WorldSBK champion known for his remarkable bike control, who steps up this season to race with Pramac Yamaha’s MotoGP team.

Pedro Acosta’s MotoGP insights offer a perspective on how Moreira’s varied motorcycle training, racing performances, and adaptability could mark the emergence of a new standout in the premier class. Fans and observers alike will watch with interest as Moreira begins his journey in MotoGP, competing among both established and emerging talents.
