Pedro Acosta stays silent on Martin-Aprilia feud, hints at future KTM challenges and Viñales regrets

Pedro Acosta has chosen not to comment on the ongoing conflict between Aprilia and Jorge Martin, who plans to leave the team at the end of the season. Despite sharing the same agent, Albert Valera, Acosta is deliberately distancing himself from the issue to avoid complications.

Acosta stated,

“Until Jorge and Albert speak, nobody will know the truth. These are their decisions and their problems – I have nothing to do with it. I’m not really up to speed on it.”

Current situation and future possibilities with KTM

There is speculation surrounding Acosta’s potential early exit from KTM due to the manufacturer’s current difficulties on the track, with VR46 possibly emerging as an alternative. Nevertheless, Acosta confirmed he still has one year left on his KTM contract and is focusing on improving results.

He admitted,

“Right now, I’ve got my own internal issues. Since the Qatar Grand Prix, we’ve been raising our level or getting closer to where we want to be. These aren’t the results we wanted to be fighting for this year, but we have to keep working and pushing.”

Regarding performance, Acosta added,

“Results are coming, more or less. The Le Mans sprint was good, we were close to the podium group, and we need to keep pushing until the Aragon test, where there will be updates.”

KTM’s financial concerns and impact on racing

Recent updates indicate KTM’s financial challenges are being addressed, which may help stabilize the team environment. Acosta expressed a cautious outlook on the financial rumors surrounding KTM.

He remarked,

“We don’t think too much about that. A lot of things are written, but nothing’s for sure. As long as it doesn’t affect racing, we can be content. I can’t say much more.”

Reflections on Maverick Viñales’ comments and career choices

When asked about Maverick Viñales’ admission of regret after leaving Yamaha mid-season in 2021 to join Aprilia, Acosta provided a thoughtful perspective on decision-making and its effects.

He noted,

“When things are already done, it’s easier to say, ‘I would’ve done this or that.’ But the decisions we make shape who we are. You can’t regret those choices. Things haven’t gone that badly for Maverick.”

Views on Jorge Martin’s contract and Pecco Bagnaia’s stance

Acosta also addressed the topic of Jorge Martin’s contract situation, referencing a statement by Pecco Bagnaia emphasizing the importance of fulfilling agreements. Acosta expressed skepticism about reports suggesting Martin’s contract is at risk despite his notable achievements.

He said,

“I highly doubt the contract of a guy who’s won two world championships – and one in Moto2 – is at risk. I’ve read some real nonsense this week. You can’t fire a kid who’s won you a championship after so long without one, who’s carried the number one plate for two straight seasons defending the title, just because the first six races of the year haven’t gone as well as he’d hoped.”

Regarding Bagnaia’s recent performance, Acosta added,

“I’d love to have the kind of six races Pecco has had this year. Even the best marriages break up.”

Significance and outlook for Acosta and MotoGP

Pedro Acosta’s neutral stance on the Aprilia and Jorge Martin feud highlights his focus on personal progress amid broader tensions in the MotoGP paddock. While KTM’s current struggles and financial issues cast uncertainty, Acosta’s commitment to improving results and honoring his contract suggest resilience. His comments on Viñales and contract obligations underline the complex dynamics riders face when balancing career decisions and competitive demands. As the season continues, Acosta’s trajectory at KTM will be closely watched, especially with potential team changes in sight.
