Formula E driver Nick Cassidy will step up to compete in the World Endurance Championship Hypercar category with Peugeot during the 2026 season. The announcement, made on Monday, is linked to a broader agreement between Cassidy and Stellantis, Peugeot’s parent company, with the New Zealander also expected to race with the Maserati MSG Racing team in Formula E’s 2025/26 season.
From Formula E and SuperGT to Endurance Racing
Cassidy, who has eleven Formula E victories, is advancing to the highest level of sportscar racing after previously participating in the World Endurance Championship’s GTE AM class. In 2022, he competed in six events driving a Ferrari run by AF Corse. Cassidy also proved himself in Japan’s SuperGT series where he won the championship alongside Ryo Hirakawa, sharing the TOM’S Lexus.
Peugeot’s Technical Director Welcomes New Talent
Olivier Jansonnie, technical director of Peugeot Sport, expressed enthusiasm about Cassidy joining the team.
“His experience in various disciplines, his technical approach and his speed make him a valuable asset for the team.”

First Testing and Future Plans
Nick Cassidy is scheduled to test the Peugeot 9X8 2024 Le Mans Hypercar in a multi-manufacturer session at Austin following the WEC race at the North American venue. This early exposure will help prepare him for his full-time role in 2026.
The confirmation of Cassidy’s signing followed a cryptic exchange on Instagram shortly after he left Jaguar Racing in Formula E earlier than planned, under mutual agreement. His recruitment is expected to be part of a substantial overhaul of Peugeot’s driver lineup as several current contracts expire this season.
Driver Market and Upcoming Challenges
The driver market is becoming increasingly competitive, with new entries such as Genesis joining the Hypercar class in 2025, followed by Ford and McLaren in 2026. Peugeot’s reserve driver, Theo Pourchaire, who is also taking part in the Austin test, is considered a candidate for a full race seat next season.
Implications for Peugeot and the WEC Landscape
Bringing Nick Cassidy into the fold signals Peugeot’s commitment to strengthening its program for the fourth full year in the World Endurance Championship. With fresh talent and evolving competition from brands like Genesis, Ford, and McLaren, 2026 promises to be a decisive year for the French manufacturer and their Hypercar campaign.
