Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the four-time NCS race winner, has shared his ambitions for the upcoming spring race at Darlington Raceway, set for Sunday, April 6. Transitioning from his former team, JTG Daugherty Racing, to the newly formed Hyak Motorsports, Stenhouse Jr. hopes to overcome past disappointments at the 1.366-mile oval.
In his 18 previous Cup Series starts at Darlington, Stenhouse Jr.’s career-best finish is eighth place. However, last year, he couldn’t break into the top 20, finishing P23 in the spring race and P22 in the fall. Acknowledging the car’s potential speed, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. stated that minimizing mistakes will be pivotal for achieving a strong result on Sunday.
With the throwback weekend and the Goodyear 400 looming, Stenhouse Jr. has set his goals clearly. Currently in P20 in the drivers’ standings with 146 points, he looks to make the most of this opportunity.
Darlington Raceway is notoriously tough for NASCAR drivers. Its narrow, asymmetrical shape and abrasive surface, combined with the ideal racing line being near the outside wall, pose significant challenges. Despite previous costly errors at this track, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is determined to tackle these hurdles with a positive mindset. Reflecting on Darlington’s complexity, he expressed that it’s both difficult and enjoyable.
Sunday’s race marks Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s 19th career start at Darlington, set to commence at 3:00 pm ET. His experience and determination play a crucial role in striving to turn past struggles into success.
