Tyler Reddick, the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion, is experiencing a sharp decline compared to his impressive performance last year. While in 2023 he secured two wins and 11 top-five finishes, this season has shown a different story with no wins and only five top-five results in 21 races, leaving him outside the playoff spots with just five races remaining. Despite maintaining competitive speed, translating this into wins has eluded him so far.
Execution Issues Costing Valuable Wins
Speaking ahead of the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, Reddick openly acknowledged the root of his struggles is not performance but execution.
“Unfortunately, when those opportunities have been there (to win), we haven’t executed. We’ve made a mistake, we’ve done something along the way that either makes that much more difficult to win or takes out of it. So that’s just kind of the name of the game.”

He cited the Dover race as a key example, where small missteps overshadowed a strong car’s capability, demonstrating how even slight errors in the highly competitive environment can have significant consequences. With that understanding, Reddick emphasizes doing his job perfectly every time to avoid further setbacks.
Playoff Qualification: Just the Starting Point
Reddick clarified his team’s postseason ambitions go beyond simply securing a playoff spot.
“Honestly, for us, making the playoffs is the minimum requirement. This team, the performance we bring to the race track, whether it’s our pit crew, our cars, or how we strategize the race. For us, yeah, it’s crazy to even think we’re worried about just making the Playoffs. To be in the Playoffs, you have to make it,”
he explained.
He noted that without accumulating key playoff points beforehand, the #45 team will face a challenging path in the postseason, predicting the need to outperform many competitors by substantial margins during each elimination round.
Goals Set on Championship Contention
Although Reddick is frustrated by the current season’s difficulties, his focus remains on a far greater goal than merely advancing to the playoffs.
“It’s about making it to the Championship 4 and competing for championships. That’s what it’s about,”
he said.
His determination signals a commitment to overcome the struggles in 2024 and reestablish himself and his team as serious contenders for NASCAR’s highest honors moving forward.
