At 6-foot-2 and with the build of a linebacker, Austin Hill cuts an imposing figure on the NASCAR circuit, especially at the tracks where he competes. From his hometown of Hampton, Georgia, Hill has made a name for himself as a powerful presence in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, showcasing both size and skill behind the wheel.
Success with Richard Childress Racing in the O’Reilly Series
Hill’s partnership with Richard Childress Racing has been a significant factor in his success. He credits the team for providing him with a well-fitted car tailored to his size.
“The guys at RCR (Richard Childress Racing) have done a really good job of getting the right seat and getting everything that I need to have,”
Hill said.
“If you look in the car, it does make you wonder how I fit into the thing, but they do a great job making me feel comfortable inside the car. I mean, it’s been good enough to be able to do what we’ve done.”
This comfort inside the car has translated into remarkable results. Hill boasts 15 wins in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driving RCR Chevrolets, with 11 victories at the drafting circuits of Daytona International Speedway, EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta, and Talladega Superspeedway. His most recent triumph came at Daytona, where strategic blocking maneuvered him to his fourth victory at the track.
Contemplating the Move to NASCAR Cup Series
Hill’s dominance on the larger tracks has sparked speculation about when he might make a full-time jump to the NASCAR Cup Series. He acknowledges the ambition, saying,
“The angle has always been to run Cup and at least give it a shot for two or three years,”
but he also values his current position.
“I’m having a lot of fun where I’m at at RCR and having a lot of fun in this series. If the right opportunity presents itself to go run Cup, I would definitely entertain that.”
For now, Hill embraces his role as a standout competitor in the O’Reilly garage, where his driving style on drafting tracks has earned respect from his peers. During a Friday media session, JR Motorsports drivers Justin Allgaier, Rajah Caruth, Carson Kvapil, and Sammy Smith discussed what makes Hill such a tough competitor, particularly in draft-heavy racing.

Enjoying the O’Reilly Series While Eyeing Future Opportunities
Hill remains fully committed to his current series, stating,
“Right now I’m fully committed to this series. I’m having a lot of fun in that these cars are way more fun to drive than the Cup car, in my opinion. The Cup car is a lot of fun on the road courses, but on the oval-style stuff, it’s just that the O’Reilly Series is just where it’s at for me.”
He also expressed the possibility of following a career path similar to that of Justin Allgaier, who spent 15 years in the O’Reilly Series, earning 28 wins and a championship.
“I hope to try to make it in Cup, but, if not, I can kind of be the Allgaier of this series.”
Upcoming Challenge at EchoPark Speedway
Hill has achieved five victories at EchoPark Speedway, the venue for the upcoming Bennett Transportation and Logistics 250, which marks the second race of the 2026 season. Recognizing the difficulty of winning there, Hill admitted,
“It’s extremely hard to win here, but we’ve made it, I guess, look easy at times. It’s anything but that.”
As Hill continues to build on his NASCAR success, his future in the sport remains full of promise. Whether he maintains his dominance in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series or eventually takes on the challenge of the NASCAR Cup Series, his determination and big presence on the track will keep him in the spotlight.
