Toto Wolff hails George Russell’s stellar F1 season start as driver shines ahead of Japanese GP.

Mercedes supremo Toto Wolff has praised his star driver George Russell ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix weekend. He asserted that Russell had the best start to an F1 season ever, with results that reflect the Austrian’s confidence.

At the 2025 F1 season opener, Russell was the sole contender among the frontrunners challenging the McLarens and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Despite the rain, the 27-year-old capitalized on Oscar Piastri‘s mistake and navigated the treacherous conditions flawlessly, securing a podium finish in Australia.

Russell maintained his momentum in China, achieving fourth place in the Sprint race and threatening Lando Norris in the Grand Prix, ultimately adding another trophy to his collection as the checkered flag waved. Over the two race weekends, Russell has amassed 35 points, marking his most successful start to an F1 season yet.

Reflecting on George Russell’s consistent top performances, Toto Wolff commented on the team’s satisfaction with their driver’s efforts. George Russell previously clinched victory at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, where he delivered a 1-2 finish for Mercedes.

The McLaren team, as George Russell acknowledged, remains a strong competitor. Still, they struggle with cooler temperatures, a condition Mercedes excelled at last year. Understanding this advantage, Russell feels optimistic about the upcoming challenges.

The next race will take place at Suzuka Circuit in Japan on April 6, with fans eagerly awaiting to see if George Russell can continue his impressive form and potentially secure another victory for Mercedes during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
