Marco Bezzecchi secured a commanding victory at the Thai MotoGP, marking the first time an Aprilia rider has achieved three consecutive wins in the premier class. Despite crashing out in Saturday’s Sprint race, Bezzecchi recovered impressively on Sunday by maintaining control from start to finish. His strong pace on medium tires helped him convert pole position into a dominant performance.
Yesterday was a small mistake with big consequences, so it was important today to bounce back,
said Bezzecchi.
My pace was good with the medium tyre, so I knew I could be fast if I was in front. I tried my all to make a good start.
Acosta Holds Championship Lead with Second Place Finish
Pedro Acosta, racing for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, reinforced his championship lead by finishing second after overtaking Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez with four laps remaining. Acosta’s performance allowed him to leave Thailand firmly at the top of the World Championship standings, underscored by his resilience after narrowly missing out in the previous day’s sprint event.
Super happy to start the season like this and for the progress we have made,
Acosta stated.
I was happy about the race and being able to battle Marc.
I would have done the same overtake — it’s what makes MotoGP exciting and such a nice show for the fans.
Strong Results for Aprilia and Ducati Teams
Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura contributed to Aprilia’s strong showing by finishing within the top five, with both riders piloting the RS-GP machine. Fabio Di Giannantonio was the highest-placed Ducati rider, clinching sixth place amid intense competition from the factory teams.
Marquez’s Podium Ambitions End in Late-Race Setback
Marc Marquez’s hopes of securing a podium ended abruptly on lap 21 after he clipped a kerb, damaging his Lenovo Ducati’s rear rim. This incident forced him to retire from contention despite a valiant battle throughout the race. The crash concluded a weekend of high drama that had also featured the Sprint race on Saturday.
Saturday’s Sprint Race Drama and Acosta’s Maiden Victory
The Sprint race offered a thrilling preview of the weekend with Bezzecchi crashing early on lap two. This opened the door for Pedro Acosta to claim his first MotoGP victory after an intense duel with Marquez. The critical moment unfolded at Turn 12 on the penultimate lap when Marquez made an aggressive inside pass that pushed Acosta off the racing line.
The FIM Race Stewards promptly reviewed the move, instructing Marquez to give back a position. Marquez complied on the final lap, allowing Acosta to reclaim the lead and cross the finish line as the race winner.
O’Gorman’s Solid Performance in Moto3
Irish rider O’Gorman, representing SIC58 Squadra Corse, delivered a commendable ride in the Moto3 class after starting from 10th on the grid. Maintaining a place within the top ten for the majority of the 19-lap race, he ultimately finished in 11th position, demonstrating consistency and promise among a competitive field.
Manuel Gonzalez Secures Victory in Moto2 After Race Red Flags
The shortened seven-lap Moto2 race saw Manuel Gonzalez from Liqui Moly Dynavolt claim the win after the event was interrupted twice by red flags. Gonzalez’s victory adds to the excitement of the weekend and highlights the unpredictable nature of race conditions in Thailand.
Implications for the Championship and Upcoming Races
Bezzecchi’s impressive recovery and continued dominance strengthen Aprilia’s position in the MotoGP standings, while Acosta’s consistent podium finishes solidify his status as a leading championship contender. The performances of riders like O’Gorman in Moto3 and Gonzalez in Moto2 indicate a depth of emerging talent across categories. As the season progresses, the outcomes in Thailand will likely influence team strategies and rider confidence heading into upcoming rounds on the calendar.
