Brad Binder prepares for a pivotal 2026 MotoGP season by focusing on riding instinctively rather than overanalyzing his performance. The Red Bull KTM rider will begin his seventh year in the premier class at the Thailand season opener in late February, facing a decisive year as it marks the final season of his KTM contract.
Binder retains his spot in the KTM factory team alongside teammate Pedro Acosta, who outperformed him consistently during 2025 by adapting more swiftly to the challenging RC16 bike. Alongside them, KTM’s Tech3 squad boasts emerging threats Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini, adding internal competition within the Austrian team.
Reflecting on a Difficult 2025 Season and Setting New Goals
Finishing 11th in the 2025 MotoGP championship, seven positions behind Acosta, Binder posted one of his lowest rankings since his rookie year in 2020. This was a significant drop compared to his steady results in the four years prior, where he consistently placed between fourth and sixth overall. The gap has intensified motivation for the upcoming season.
“Last year I felt like I was thinking the whole time on the motorbike, instead of letting just my natural ability take over. That’s one thing that I want to change for this season. Just really enjoy riding the bike a bit more,”
Binder revealed during Red Bull KTM’s 2026 livery launch.
I’m quite confident that I can make a good step up,
Binder said this week when Red Bull KTM unveiled its livery and partners for 2026.
Preparing for the Season with Renewed Focus and Training
The KTM team will utilize two official pre-season tests to optimize the RC16 ahead of the championship start: first in Malaysia from February 3rd to 5th, then in Thailand on February 21st and 22nd. These sessions will be critical for Binder to regain rhythm and confidence on the bike.

It’s been a great off-season. I took a couple weeks off and got a lot of riding done, a lot of cycling,
Binder added, emphasizing his physical preparation and mindset reset.
With 22 races in the upcoming season, Binder’s immediate goal is to end a podium drought that stretches back to 2021. Currently, he has gone 41 races without finishing on a MotoGP podium.
Expectations Amidst Fierce Competition and Historic Pursuits
The 2026 season will also highlight reigning world champion Marc Marquez’s pursuit to match Giacomo Agostini’s record of eight premier-class titles. Marquez and Valentino Rossi each hold seven championships, intensifying the battle at the top of the sport.
Within the paddock, South African representation extends beyond Brad Binder. Moto3 rider Ruché Moodley continues to compete alongside him, while Brad’s brother Darryn has transitioned from Moto2 to the MotoAmerica Supersport Championship after 11 years in grand prix racing.
Outlook for Brad Binder’s 2026 MotoGP Campaign
As Binder embarks on what could define his future in MotoGP, his strategy to trust his instincts and enjoy the racing process offers a promising shift. With substantial competition in the KTM ranks and a challenging championship calendar ahead, Binder faces a critical season to reaffirm his status among the premier class frontrunners and secure his place in the sport’s next chapter.
