Brad Binder’s 2026 Season Starts Strong at Thailand GP

Brad Binder began his 2026 season on a positive note by securing automatic entry into Q2 at the Thailand Grand Prix, a feat he managed only five times last year. After a tough 2025 in which he struggled to keep up with top contenders Pedro Acosta and Maverick Viñales, his performance in the early sessions signals a potential rebound. The South African rider, once the leader at KTM, showed signs of renewed confidence as he adapted to his bike and the challenging track conditions.

Reestablishing Momentum Following a Difficult 2025

Last season, Binder found himself slipping to third place behind Acosta and Viñales, who outperformed him consistently while he grappled with the RC16’s handling. With 22 Grands Prix behind him last year, the South African rider endured a frustrating stretch as he tried to regain his previous pace. However, the first day in Thailand revealed improvement: despite starting 17th in the initial practice session, he managed to climb into the top 10, ending practice eighth overall. This placement was enough to advance him directly into Q2, a much-needed uplift given last year’s struggles.

Adaptation to Changing Conditions Fuels Progress

Binder’s success on Friday came partly from making the most of a brief dry window in otherwise rainy and erratic weather. His perfectly timed lap allowed him to move ahead just as conditions shifted, proving his determination and adaptability. He finished just four-tenths of a second behind his teammate, reflecting competitive form against familiar rivals.

The conditions were very changeable, but I managed to put in a good lap at the crucial moment, at the end of practice, and finished eighth, which allowed me to go straight into Q2. That’s the most important thing. I can’t wait to get back on the bike tomorrow and try to continue this momentum, to improve even more. I’m sure we can do a good job. It’s a solid start to the season, let’s keep this momentum going tomorrow.

Strong Fan Support Boosts Enthusiasm

The number 33 is embraced passionately by fans, especially those from South Africa who traveled to cheer him on during the event. This enthusiastic backing appears to be a valuable source of motivation for Binder as he pursues a more successful run this year.

There are always a lot of South Africans here in Thailand, so it’s great to see all this support and I hope I can give them a great show.
