Brad Keselowski’s Daytona Return Delayed by Weather Hold-Up

Brad Keselowski’s effort to rejoin the NASCAR Cup Series at the Daytona 500 has encountered an unexpected delay as weather conditions have postponed a critical medical evaluation. This setback comes just days before the season-opening event, putting the 2012 Cup Series champion’s participation in doubt ahead of the high-stakes race in Daytona.

Injury Recovery and Missed Opportunities Mark Keselowski’s Offseason

The 41-year-old driver’s return has been complicated by a fractured right femur he suffered on Dec. 18 during a ski trip, in an accident that occurred while exiting a vehicle rather than on the slopes. This injury forced him to sit out the preseason Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium as he focused on rehabilitation. Since the incident, Keselowski has engaged in continuous medical care and therapy to regain strength and mobility with the aim of competing behind the wheel of the No. 6 RFK Racing Ford once again.

Despite the determined recovery process, weather conditions have now caused the postponement of the final approval test required for Keselowski’s race eligibility. He confirmed the news on social media, stating,

“My final approval test has been moved to Monday due to weather.”

This delay adds another layer of uncertainty to his chances of making the starting grid for the Daytona 500.

Team Adaptations and the Stakes of the Season’s First Race

Keselowski’s absence from the preseason Clash opened the door for Corey LaJoie to step in as the driver for the No. 6 RFK Racing car, allowing the organization to maintain competitive focus while prioritizing the driver-owner’s health. Ryan Preece also contributed to the team’s strong offseason showing by securing a win in the Clash, signaling potential momentum for RFK Racing heading into the season.

However, the Daytona 500 carries special significance beyond any exhibition or early-season event. As the “Great American Race” and a key indicator for the entire NASCAR campaign, Keselowski’s return here is pivotal both personally and professionally. Now in his fifth year with RFK Racing as a driver and co-owner, his presence on the track is closely watched given his impressive career tally of 36 Cup victories and several high-profile wins.

Critical Licensing Hurdle Awaits Amid Tense Anticipation

Before Keselowski can compete, NASCAR’s medical team must grant final clearance based on his physical readiness. The weather-induced postponement means the crucial evaluation, now scheduled for Monday, will determine if he meets the safety standards necessary to race in the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15. The outcome holds significant weight for both Keselowski and the RFK Racing team.

The Daytona 500 will broadcast live on FOX at 2:30 p.m. ET with radio coverage from MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Until Keselowski receives this final approval, his participation remains an open question, leaving fans and the racing community in suspense as one of the sport’s most accomplished veterans awaits the green light to return to competition at the sport’s most iconic event.
