Bubba Wallace Hopes for Breakout Season as NASCAR Contract Ends

In late 2024, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports launched an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR, challenging the sport’s governing body and stirring uncertainty throughout the racing community. Co-owned by Michael Jordan and Bob Jenkins, 23XI Racing risked its future by taking on NASCAR, but after more than a year of legal conflict, the teams reached a settlement that preserved their place within the sport. Bubba Wallace, the team’s prominent driver, praised the collective dedication of 23XI Racing’s staff during this difficult period as he prepares for the last year of his contract.

Wallace Highlights Team’s Determination Amid Challenges

Reflecting on the lawsuit and its impact, Bubba Wallace shared insights during a recent interview with journalist Bob Pockrass. He expressed admiration for the team’s ability to push forward despite the high stakes of the legal dispute.

“We’re always having to watch what we say, you know, I look at it from the people that showed up to work each and every day, knowing that there was something of that magnitude looming, and they still gave their effort to build us the fastest race cars, the best to their abilities, and they didn’t let that affect them,”

Wallace stated.

He went on to commend NASCAR and the involved teams for resolving their differences to promote positive change, emphasizing 23XI Racing’s commitment to transforming the sport despite obstacles.

“You know, both sides were able to come together and make changes for the sport. That’s what we said from day one about this team, as we wanna be different, we wanna push for change in a positive way, and if we have to rough some feathers, so be it, but stand a hundred percent behind my team, and, thankful for the opportunity,”

Wallace added.

Settlement Secures Future of 23XI and Front Row Motorsports

The lawsuit filed in October 2024 resulted in a landmark settlement announced in December the following year. NASCAR agreed to grant permanent charters to 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, increased revenue from international media rights, and compensation for lost income incurred while competing as unregistered entries. On February 3, 2026, the parties jointly filed a dismissal of the case with prejudice in federal court, meaning the matter is conclusively resolved.

With this legal uncertainty behind them, both teams continue to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series. Front Row Motorsports fields three full-time charters for drivers Todd Gilliland, Zane Smith, and Noah Gragson, along with a part-time charter for Chandler Smith. Meanwhile, 23XI Racing, which finished ninth in the 2025 standings, looks to build on its momentum with a lineup featuring Tyler Reddick, Riley Herbst, Corey Heim running part-time, and Bubba Wallace in the final year of his current contract.

Sponsorship Deal Brings New Support for Wallace’s 2026 Campaign

Bubba Wallace’s contract with 23XI Racing is due to expire after the 2026 season, presenting the possibility that he could become a free agent unless an extension is negotiated by team owners Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. Despite no confirmed contract renewal yet, 23XI ensured Wallace entered the new season with solid sponsorship backing.

Robinhood, a well-known investing platform, agreed to sponsor both Bubba Wallace and Corey Heim during the 2026 season. The partnership kicks off with Heim’s #67 truck at the Daytona 500 and continues with Robinhood sponsoring Wallace’s #23 car throughout the year. This support comes at a crucial moment as Wallace expresses optimism about his upcoming performance.

“Now it’s expected. You’re supposed to run top five, top ten each and every week and so you get used to that. Your mindset changes,”

Wallace explained.

“You accept that second is good; we still didn’t win, we need to work harder the next week. Then when you start stringing those runs together it changes the vibe of everything. The confidence is up, the expectations get higher and higher. You’re always moving the goalpost trying to chase greatness.”

Looking Ahead: The Promise of a New Era for 23XI Racing

As Bubba Wallace navigates his contract’s final stretch, the team’s stability and evolving sponsorships provide a platform to pursue a breakthrough season. With visionary leadership from Michael Jordan and increasing competitive momentum, 23XI Racing seeks to capitalize on recent developments to secure lasting success in NASCAR’s highly competitive environment. The coming months on the track will be pivotal in determining if Wallace and 23XI Racing can elevate their performance and realize their ambitions in 2026.
